Hello all! I'm just beginning my road to obtain an MBA. I graduated with a 3.25 GPA from Boston University and am currently serving in the military. I'm looking to apply summer/fall of 2017 for matriculation 2018 so I've got some time ahead of me... Wanted to focus first on getting a high GMAT score above anything else then deciding my schools to apply to.
Before I deep dive into a full GMAT prep class schedule through Veritas or Manhattan, I was wondering if you guys could offer up any cheap/reasonably priced GMAT online self study guides? I'm currently looking at Magoosh VS E-GMAT, what are your thoughts? Magoosh was the cheapest I found for $99 and E-GMAT was $299. Any other good options are a fair price? I wanted to get my basics down first before fully investing in a $1350 Veritas Course load.

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can download 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

EMPOWERgmatRichC thanks for the insight! I didn't even know MBA.com offered two free tests. I think that will be my first starting point this weekend then. I'll set aside some time and see where I stand.
To answer your questions, my goal score would be 720+ to target myself towards the M7 top tier Bschools. I'm looking to take my first official GMAT sometime in Dec/Jan. Then if that score isn't where I want it to be it'll give me another 3-4 months to try again before I have to start thinking about applications in the summer.
