Re: Bocconi vs St. Gallen vs HEC Paris [#permalink]
Hey,

Thanks you for your quick answers:)

I have no relevant work experience, I completed a Bachelor in Business Engineering (a lot of quants and science).

I am a lot more interested in Financial Markets than in Corporate Finance.

Goals: Investment banking, Portfolio management, Investment funds

Thanks!

My suggestion would be to go for HEC PAris..

Hey,

I have been admitted to all three: Bocconi, St. Gallen, and HEC Paris.

I would like to have your opinion about which B-School to choose. The cost of the programme is not relevant for the decision at the moment.

Thank you!

Hello Maxence936

Congratulations on being admitted to 3 great schools

Among those schools seems like HEC is usually best ranked in various rankings :

https://rankings.ft.com/businessschoolra ... ience-2018

https://news.efinancialcareers.com/uk-e ... nt-banking

https://www.topuniversities.com/univers ... nance/2019

According to FT you can expect $135,873 salary upon graduation at HEC vs. $111,958 upon graduation at University of St Gallen, on average.

I am personally inclined toward St Gallen and went over both curriculum's, but have to admit HEC Capital markets/Financial engineering specialization is interesting and aligned with your goals, although I dont see anything similar such as course in Computational Finance that St Gallen has.

I also like their London trip networking and professional experience requirement (4 months full time job).

Having in mind that you come from Belgium, there is a chance you are speaking French (cannot say the same for German), which is another reason for giving advantage to HEC in your case.

On another hand, tracks such as Financial Markets, Risk Management and Insurance and especially Quantitative Methods & Data Science at St. Gallen are simply awesome.

Financial markets is track that you want, I personally find Quantitative Methods & Data Science most interesting (Advanced Math, Stat and Econometrics, Computational Finance, Machine Learning, Smart Data Analytics )

I believe you are also aware of Commodity Derivatives Trading in London/Private Equity in Singapore/Quantitative Portfolio Management in Frankfurt opportunity.

Whatever you choose between HEC and St. Gallen, you cannot go wrong, although HEC is maybe more suitable for you.

I would rule out Bocconi in this settings :)

My vote goes to St. Gallen and I admit I am little bit biased as being already a Quant :geek:

Thanks for your very complete answer!

However, I still hesitate a lot, St. Gallen would be an opportunity to learn german too. I already speak French and English.

Also, I did not apply to LSE, was that a mistake? Is it really better than HEC? Even with Brexit?

Thanks:)

In case some of you are seeing this post and hesitating between these schools, I wanted to tell you that I finally decided to go to HEC Paris, and that I do not regret my choice at all. The network is exceptional, lots of job opportunities, the London Study trip, the teaching approach, etc.
I would definitely not hesitate if I were in your shoes again!
