A somber update from GroundsAs you may know, the University of Virginia community is mourning the loss of three students due to a shooting that occurred on 14 November on the UVA Arts Grounds near Culbreth Theatre. Two more students were injured and are receiving medical care.
On behalf of the Darden School, we extend our sincere concern to all in our community — including prospective and admitted students — as we cope with this tragic news.
At Darden, classes were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday, and we recently held a community dialogue to help each other process these terrible events. It will take time for our community — in Admissions and School-wide — to return to regular activities and be at our best in our roles with our full energy and enthusiasm. This has been an unspeakable tragedy, but we are grateful to be in a community of compassion, care and mutual support.
Whatever your relationship to UVA, we hope you will hold yourself with compassion in the coming days, knowing there is no right way to feel and respond.
Hundreds of students gathered to create an impromptu vigil on UVA Grounds on Monday night
We appreciate your understanding and your continued interest in learning more about Darden, especially during a time when so many members in our community have been affected by this tragedy.
Thank you, all, for the love and support you are sending to Charlottesville, Darden and the University. We are holding the victims, their families and all members of the UVA community in our hearts.
Sincerely,
Dawna Clarke
Senior Assistant Dean of Admissions
