Hi Everyone,I’m planning to apply for Duke’s MBA program in the Early Action round next month and would love some feedback on my profile to gauge my chances.

Here’s a bit about me:


  • Education: ECE Graduate, PEC Chandigarh, Class of 2022
  • Work Experience: Currently working as a Software Engineer at UKG, where I’ve been working since graduation. I was recently promoted to the role of Senior Software Engineer, reflecting my career progression and increased responsibilities.
  • Post-MBA Goals: I’m aiming to transition into product management.
  • Volunteer & Extracurriculars: I’ve been actively involved in volunteer work, both through a startup and my religious community. Additionally, I have notable achievements in extracurriculars, including drumming, public speaking, and participation in international competitions like CANSAT.
  • Application Details:
    • Undergrad GPA: 9.16/10
    • GMAT: 665 (First Attempt)

Two years of work experience is a bit low. It’s not impossible, but it’s less than ideal. Focus on improving your scores too. If you look at the profiles that apply, most have around 5 years of experience

Low work experience; good GPA, avg. GMAT (considering that you are Indian + Engineer; IDK gender - if male then this point is reinforced). More importantly, how well have you researched about Duke will matter a lot. - Dee (MBA Admissions Consultant and Management Consultant)

There’s a one page limit for that essay, plus a 10-point font and 1.5 line spacing requirement. How are you even able to exceed 500 words in the first place?

Undertake due diligence during school selection - some will reject you outright due to you having an MBA already. Good score, don’t know of your GPA; focus on achievements and impact you have created inside and outside or work; undertake deep research on schools, attend webinars, events and speak with adcom, students and alumni. Trust you have done all this already, because now you don’t have time for EA/R1. A job well done is 99% well planned.

Yes. It’s a marginal difference and you’re safe, as long as you stick to the 1.5 line spacing and font size requirements.

I think invitations might be rolling for the early action round. There were multiple in-person interview dates on the application that fell before Fuqua’s posted 10/4 interview decision deadline.
