Hi everyone! Happy to share some of my insights.
I was waitlisted after being interviewed in round 1. I am a female general manager working in a family business in Chile (very untraditional background).
First, let me tell you that being waitlisted isn't a negative thing. It means that the admission likes your profile in general but want to see more (reflection on our sides) and be sure that we are committed to Duke. It's extremely important to attend the wait-list webinar, because after going through this whole process, I think everything they said in the webinar were true.
you need to reflect on what is lacking in your application. Whether it's your grade (gpa, gmat etc), your community involvement? (fuqua really puts emphasis on this), your work achievement , or your potential contribution to the fuqua community and what you can get back from fuqua.
I personally submitted 5 different updates (1 updateevery 2 weeks) talking about new updates at work, at community involvement (I'm the fundraising chair for a educational ngo in chile, and I also talked extensively on the concept of decency quotient). Honestly I don't think it's necessary to submit that many updates, as long as your updates are dense and concise. My undergrad gpa was low, so I took mbamath and sent them the transcript proving that I have no problem with the rigorous course at Duke. I reiterated in every update that Duke is my first choice , had calls with admission officers every 2 weeks ( I talked to 4 different admission people since the assignment is random), and I obtained 2 extra referrals from Chilean alumns from duke.
I have called/talked to over 15 Chilean alums from Duke after I got waitlisted. I think that also showed that I'm 100% committed to Duke.
Overall guys, be super super proactive, let them see your face, hear your voice (via zoom ), get to know your personality, don't just sit there and do nothing because that'll get you nowhere!!
good luck to all of you who got waitlisted. There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel!!
