I received a an admit Yesterday. :) :) official letter is coming next month.

Congratulations on the admit. Did you go through 2 rounds of interview? I have already given one but it has been 3 weeks now, not sure there will be 2nd round.

Completed my 2 rounds of interviews on 16th Dec. Got a call yesterday confirming my admission. Official letter will reach by mid Jan. :)

Interview experience : As several folks have already mentioned, questions are very standard. Nothing stressful in either rounds for me. Actually it felt as though both rounds had a lot of common questions.

1. Why MBA and why now?
2. How will HKUST help with your goals? questions around how much do you know about HKUST program? (nothing stressful.. you should be able to answer easily if you have gone through their site even briefly during the application process)
3. Be prepared with a question around learning the language - Mandarin or Cantonese. Again, it felt as if they wanted to see if you have really given it a proper thought because this is a major concern for a lot of international students.

Received an invite to interview today. An Alum will get in touch in the next couple of weeks. So I should just lay back and relax up until then?

Firstly, congrats for clearing the first hurdle!

Just something to keep in mind - you might get just 2-3 days for your interview once the alumni contacts you. I got 2 days in my case. Frankly speaking, if you can relax with that assumption, then there is nothing like it :)

Good luck!

Hi,

I also received yesterday an invitation to interview with the adcom, but I will be stuck in a meeting room in Tokyo during all the available slots. Hopefully there is possibility to schedule it a different day.

Best of luck everyone!

So some people have received an invitation to interview only with adcom/alum and some have received both? Did I understand this correctly? If so, then what does this imply?

I guess it is going to be an alum as this is what I got in the email "On behalf of the Admissions Committee, we are pleased to invite you to attend our admissions interview.

Our alumnus / current student, , will contact you directly to arrange a Skype or face-to-face interview. Please expect a follow-up e-mail from them in the coming 2-3 weeks."

Received the same email and "Our alumnus / current student" contacted me earlier today. Fairly impressed by the quick turnaround time. Interview via Skype has been scheduled for the 22nd with a current student.

Just had my interview with a student today. Any idea how long the process takes post that? Does everyone have to go through an Adcom interview? Is there a possibility of getting an admit directly? Any info would be appreciated.

I had an interview with an Alumni and with the Adcom in the last days. Both went quite well, at least in my opinion.
The adcom told me it will take around 2-3 weeks until they will let me know about their final decision.

Yes, I think the AdCom interview is mandatory. To the first part of your question - its been a little less than two weeks now since I had my first interview. I spoke with a current student who said that sometimes it can take some time (plus Chinese New Year is round the corner). Additionally, I went through last years posts as well and apparently some folks (who were admitted) received their second interview notification only after 27-28 days.

Good luck to all for interviews! We would really appreciate if interviewed applicants could post their interview debriefs on our newly launched Bschool review system - http://gmatclub.com/reviews/business_schools/ (Click on 'Create your Own Review', then select 'Business Schools' -- School Name -- Program Name -- Admission Interview)
