Hello Everyone!

I recently gave my GMAT and got a 720 (Q49 V39). However, my score in IR is 3. Should i be worried about it?

Hi, you have a good score. Congratulations. ISB admission process does not take into account IR scores. Not to worry.

Only the final score is considered for evaluation, 720 in your case.

Hello All.
I am planning to apply to ISB this year.
A short overview of my background.

10th - 9.7 CGPA
12th - 96.5%
UG from a tier 2 Deemed university - 7.95 CGPA
Currently Working as a cybersecurity consultant for IBM and will be completing 2 years of work experience next month.

I wanted to know if there would be any kind of weightage /advantage in the ISB application process if I have relevant certifications from Udemy, OReilly etc.

Also, what would be the impact of the ISB’ Product Management online course on the application?

Certifications can add value to your application if they are relevant to your field of work and/ or your post-MBA goals. Let's look at these separately:

Certifications relevant to your current/ past field of work: Particularly the ones that align with the skills and knowledge required in your work domains. For example, a reputed certification in the specific area you specialize in within IBM can demonstrate your thought-leadership within that domain. However, to make it more compelling for a B-school application, highlight the practical application of these certifications, such as projects or initiatives where you applied the skills gained from the certifications.

Certifications relevant to your post-MBA goals: Please clarify what your post-MBA goals are i.e. target sector, function, and ideally also target companies/ roles. If Product Management is your post-MBA goal, ISB's Product Management online course can add value to your application. It can demonstrate both your interest in Product Management and your determination to develop the right skills. Furthermore, I suggest gaining more practical exposure if possible. For example, try to pick up cross-functional projects at your work where you can get exposure to Product Management, or even interact more with Product Managers to learn about the function. Also try to participate in Product Management seminars/ workshops, network with PMs (ideally ISB alumni, as this point can further strengthen your essays) etc. This, in my view, can add more weight to your application than just certifications.

I am hosting a webinar on 14th July with Deepti Gupta, a Google Product Manager/ Leader and an ISB alumna - please join if it interests you. We will cover topics including B-school applications, careers in Product Management & Consulting, etc. Register (free) at https://bit.ly/admitstreet_webinar

This applies not only to ISB but generally to most MBA programs. Certifications can be a valuable way to compensate, to some extent, for weaker aspects of an MBA applicant's profile, such as a low GPA or a less impressive GMAT score. For instance, if an applicant struggled in computer science engineering during college and obtained a mediocre GPA, but then took additional courses and sought mentorship to become a successful software engineer with extensive knowledge and experience, it showcases their ability to turn personal shortcomings into growth opportunities. This demonstrates to the admissions committee their capacity to overcome academic challenges.

If you have taken additional courses or obtained certifications, gaining experience in product-related roles outside of your degree or current job, it is crucial to strategically highlight these experiences in your application. By doing so, you demonstrate your genuine interest in the field and your efforts to develop skills and acquire knowledge beyond what is required. Emphasizing your passion and proactive approach persuades the admissions committee of your suitability and preparedness for a successful career in product management.

Feel free to reach out for candid advice

If I apllied to ISB with a score of 650 and retook it and got a better score.
Will ISB consider my updated GMAT score after submission of application?

Hello RaghavRohith

ISB will evaluate your profile on four factors-

1. Academic Potential- past scores are decent, the GMAT is just at par. Which means academic potential will not be the reason for acceptance or rejection as this is neither a major strength or a major weakness in your case. What is the stream of graduation?
2. Work Experience- 2 years is slightly on the lower side and the technology background puts you in the most competitive pool of applicants. What will help you stand out will be the career progression and achievements and how you put these forward in your stories. Too little information to go by.
3. Diversity- Diversity is essentially any traits/qualities/life experience that set you apart from the crowd and will help you add value to the experience of your batch mates inside and outside the classroom. The certifications could potentially help here if you weave these into your narrative.
4. Career Goals- your profile is not just your past experience but also your future aspirations. ISB is looking for leaders with a clear vision of their future and a realistic idea how ISB fits into these goals. You haven't mentioned anything around your goals and hence the review remains incomplete. The ISB product management course could potentially help here if your post MBA goals are tied to the course. In that case you come out as a serious candidate who is already working towards fulfilling your goals even before you get into the PGP program.

I also have same question.. I thought focus edition would be better for me as I would not have to worry about SC and IR will benifit me.
