I doubt there's enough data about this, but I would love to see if doing an "optional" video or not meaningfully affects your chances. Did anyone get in with just an essay or none at all? I just did an essay, so maybe that was viewed negatively as an indication that Sloan wasn't my top choice. Of course, it could have been one of a 1,000 other reasons too...

In any case, congrats to all the admits!

I did an essay and got in.

I saw many applicants video on youtube and I think a lot of people "bragged" too much about their accomplishments to really fit with MIT, I wrote a more personal and self-reflective essay (obviously I could be totally wrong and the essay could be the worst part of my application, so feel free to ignore my comment).

Let's ask admitted folks. I've inserted a poll in admitted students thread. Let's see what they say. mit-sloan-class-of-2019-calling-all-admitted-students-227496.html

Hope everyone is doing well. Just one week left to submit your application in R2. Good luck to all applicants!!

I spent some time on studying stats of previous Sloan applicants to analyze admission trends and acceptance chances of applicants at MIT Sloan. This analysis is based on our accumulated forum data of applicants. I have analysed the forum data of Sloan applicants from 2012 to 2016 to determine acceptance chances by GMAT score, admission rounds, industry, age, country, etc.

The data used for this analysis is self-reported, so it's advised to use findings of this analysis with discretion. They are meant to give only a general idea of admission scenario at MIT Sloan. Don't presume that these findings will hold true all the time.

I welcome any comments, opinions, suggestions or anything else that you might have to say about the findings of this analysis.

Acceptance Rate by GMAT Score

  • MIT Sloan is one of the toughest bschools to get in to and the chart below clearly shows the intensity of competition. At best one can have 27% chance of acceptance.
  • Among the 1214 applicants that we considered for this chart, around 88% had GMAT score of 700 or above and 66% had GMAT score of 720 or above..
  • Gap between interview invitation rate and acceptance rate in considerably small for applicants who have sub 700 GMAT score. This finding tells us that Sloan is selective in choosing applicants below 700 GMAT for the interview, but those who are invited have much higher chance of acceptance, almost 50%.

Sample Size: 1214 Applicants

Acceptance Rate by Admission Round

Sample Size: 2314 Applicants

Acceptance Rates of Applicants in Different Age Groups

Sample Size: 814 Applicants

Acceptance rates of applicants from various industries

  • The first chart - line chart - shows acceptance rates of applicants from various industries and the pie chart next to it shows industry-wise allocation of applicants.

Sample Size: 1016 Applicants

Acceptance Rates of Applicants from Various Regions

Sample Size: 823 Applicants

As I said earlier, we welcome your views, counter-views, suggestions, etc on the analysis. Thank you!

Thanks for the analysis Narenn.

The acceptance rate for Southeast Asia last year was surprisingly low. Hope it'd be better this year though. :-D

The round 2 deadline is getting close.
Anybody working on R2 apps around here?
I'm planning to send an application with an optional written essay.
Wondering if it's a good idea or multimedia format would be better?
