Hi, guys. 2nd year Rotman MBA student graduating this April. Congratulations to those all accepted and I hope things work out for everyone as well whether you decide to pursue MBA or not. I just want to say past two years have been an incredible experience that made me grow so much full of challenges and learning opportunities.
I just wanted to share a few advices for all who want to be prepared for 1st year Rotman and also want to know what 1st year MBA will be learning. Please understand that it's my personal opinion and does not represent the school's opinion.
1. Take a basic excel class online and try to learn how to do quantitative analysis. Excel will be your best friend at Rotman.
2. Try taking online introduction to finance or accounting class. If you never took finance or accounting before, I strongly urge you to do so as while you may think you will learn them at school once the term starts, your learning capacity will be maximized and have an easier time understanding the concepts if you prepare a bit in advance.
3. Continue to study your certifications and strengthen your resume. Take those certifications before Rotman and start building your portfolios. MBA is definitely an asset, but as you will be competing against your fellow classmates as well as entire Canadian MBAs and US potentially, it is important to continue to fortify your core strengths. This is important for internships and fulltime job search especially as I realized.
I also recommend start contacting a few students at Rotman that aligns with your career interest to identify what skills and competencies you need to secure a great job or achieve a dream that you're pursuing.
I did write about this in my blog (

Good luck all.
