Cheetahs run faster than do elk. But since lions run faster than hyenas do, it must be true that cheetahs are faster than hyenas.

We have to connect the two to get third...
Answer requires either of two, C or E, to be faster than either of the other two, L or H.

Which of the following statements, if inserted into the argument, makes the argument logically correct?
A. Elk run faster than do lions.
E>L... Yes this is what we are looking for

B. Lions run faster than do elk.
L>E.... No
It it could be L>H>C>E here H>C OR L>C>E>H, here C>H

C. Hyenas run faster than do elk.
H>E, again NO
It could be C>L>H>E or l>H>C>E

D. Lions run faster than do cheetahs.
L>C... No

E. Cheetahs are faster than most animals.

Now we have
C to E
L to H
C to H

what we don't have is E to L, Option A bridges that gap.

Let,
All the animals are going from X to Y. So, the graph is like below.
X------------Elk (20km/hour)-------Hyenas (30km/hour)-------Lion (50km/hour)-------Cheetash (80km/hour)------------->Y
In the red part elk=20km/hour, and Lion=50km/hour.
So, my question is how Elk>Lion?

Notice that you are assuming that Cheetah is the fastest of all. But we are no where given that they are.

Hence, if you assume this, your point is valid but remember in inference questions we should always avoid our own assumptions.

So, as per the argument we are given that

C> E and L>H. In order for C to be greater than H, we need to prove that E>=H. For that, we have statement A which says E > L. This means E will be >H. Hence, our conclusion is proved correctly.
