Hi
Annajin,
Thanks for sharing. Columbia could work for you given your strong GMAT and work experience. While your undergrad GPA is on the lower side, a good test score and impressive experience should outweigh this (and the upward trajectory helps too).
You can also discuss your GPA in the optional essay section. Often,
Personal MBA Coach advises candidates to remain brief and to the point when explaining the cause of a low GPA in an optional essay. Do not offer long-winded excuses or any more information than is needed.
That said, GPAs and test scores are only part of the equation. A lot will come down to articulating your personal story.
Personal MBA Coach started with the premise that everyone has a personal story and that the most successful candidates craft unique and compelling stories. This continues to be a cornerstone of
our support and the area where we find our clients need the most guidance.
Successfully articulating your post-MBA goals will also be key. Considering your current role in investment and equity research, you should be able to effectively write about a transition to IB or buy-side, since the skill sets overlap.
Also, something a lot of folks overlook is networking with admissions teams and showing interest in the school. While visiting campus may still be a challenge, there are a number of opportunities to attend virtual tours, connect with current students and alumni, join virtual fairs, etc. Where else are you considering applying to along with CBS? As competition increases and acceptance rates fall,
Personal MBA Coach suggests applying to 5 to 8 schools to maximize your chances of success.
