Four houses are on Block B; from east to west the houses belong to the Joneses, Smiths, Robinsons, and Jacksons. How far is it from the Joneses house to the Jacksons house?
(1) The distance from the Joneses' house to the Robinsons' house is 68 feet.
(2) The distance from the Smiths' house to the Jacksons' house is 75 feet.

In order from east-west(right to left), the houses are
Jacksons - Robinsons - Smiths - Joneses
From statement 1, we know the distance between Joneses and Robinson's house to be 68 feet.
Since we do not know the distance between, Robinson and Jackson's house,
we can't clearly tell the distance between Joneses house and Jacksons house. Insufficient.
From statement 2, we know the distance between Jacksons and Smiths house to be 75 feet.
Since we do not know the distance between,Smith's and Joneses's house,
we can't clearly tell the distance between Joneses house and Jacksons house. Insufficient.
On combining the two statements, we still can't clearly tell how far the distance between Joneses house and Jacksons house is.
Situation 1
Let the distance between Robinsons and Smiths is 45 feet, using statement 1, distance between Joneses and Smith will be 23 feet.
Also, using statement2, distance between Jackson's and Robinson's house is 30 ft. Total distance :23+30+45 = 98feet.
Situation 2
Let the distance between Robinsons and Smiths is 40 feet, using statement 1, distance between Joneses and Smith will be 28 feet.
Also, using statement2, distance between Jackson's and Robinson's house is 35 ft. Total distance :28+35+40 = 103feet. Insufficient(Option E)
Jacksons - Robinsons - Smiths - Joneses
From statement 1, we know the distance between Joneses and Robinson's house to be 68 feet.
Since we do not know the distance between, Robinson and Jackson's house,
we can't clearly tell the distance between Joneses house and Jacksons house. Insufficient.
From statement 2, we know the distance between Jacksons and Smiths house to be 75 feet.
Since we do not know the distance between,Smith's and Joneses's house,
we can't clearly tell the distance between Joneses house and Jacksons house. Insufficient.
On combining the two statements, we still can't clearly tell how far the distance between Joneses house and Jacksons house is.
Situation 1
Let the distance between Robinsons and Smiths is 45 feet, using statement 1, distance between Joneses and Smith will be 23 feet.
Also, using statement2, distance between Jackson's and Robinson's house is 30 ft. Total distance :23+30+45 = 98feet.
Situation 2
Let the distance between Robinsons and Smiths is 40 feet, using statement 1, distance between Joneses and Smith will be 28 feet.
Also, using statement2, distance between Jackson's and Robinson's house is 35 ft. Total distance :28+35+40 = 103feet. Insufficient(Option E)

(1) The distance from the Joneses' house to the Robinsons' house is 68 feet.
This is not sufficient as we still cannot confirm the distance between Joneses and Jacksons house. The only information we have is Simths hosue comes after Joneses and Jacksons house comes after Robinsons.
Hence, (1) =====> is NOT SUFFICIENT
(2) The distance from the Smiths' house to the Jacksons' house is 75 feet.
This is not sufficient as we still cannot confirm the distance between Smiths' and Jacksons house. The only information we have is Robinsons house comes after Smiths and Joneses house comes after before Smiths.
Hence, (2) =====> is NOT SUFFICIENT
Lets combine (1) & (2)
even if we combine we only come to know the distance between Joneses' house to the Robinsons' house and Smiths' house to the Jacksons' house, however, note that we are still missing an information on the distance between Joneses to Smiths house or Jacksons to Robinsons.
It may initially feel that both the options are sufficient however plot these points on the paper and then check if you are able to calculate the distance between these points.
Hence, Answer is E
