Total Stamps = 56

(1) Each stamp in the collection is exactly one of the following six colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, or violet.
Using this we don't know how many albums are there.
Insufficient

(2) Bob places the stamps into 9 albums, with each stamp placed in exactly one album.
Using only this, we know the number of albums, but we dont know about the number of colors.
Insufficient.

Using both (1) & (2)
We have 9 albums and 6 colors.
We can directly say 56/9 = 6 and 2 as remainder

But even now we arent really sure about the stamps as of which colored stamps are where.
We can arrange all colors together if we cant, or even have a mixture of different ones.

Therefore E

Statement (1) alone:
So we know:
  • There are only 6 colors
  • Total of 56 stamps
But we don’t know how the stamps are distributed into albums.
There’s no info about how stamps are grouped. So we can’t say whether two same-colored stamps end up in the same album.
Statement (1) alone: Not sufficient

Statement (2) alone:
So:
  • 56 stamps, 9 albums
We know the album distribution, but nothing about stamp colors.
We don't know how many colors there are or how they're distributed.
Statement (2) alone: Not sufficient

Combining (1) and (2)
  • 56 stamps
  • Only 6 colors
  • Stamps placed in 9 albums

Let’s suppose, for contradiction, that every album contains stamps of different colors only — i.e., no duplicate colors within an album.
Each album can contain at most 6 stamps (because only 6 colors exist, and we don’t want repeats in an album).
So the maximum total number of stamps that can be placed across all 9 albums without repeating any color in an album is:
9×6=54
But Bob has 56 stamps.
So he must place at least 56−54=2 stamps in albums that already contain a stamp of the same color.
So yes, at least one album must contain two or more stamps of the same color.
Together: Sufficient

Statement (1): Each stamp in the collection is exactly one of the following six colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, or violet.
This tells us there are 6 possible colors for the stamps. However, we don't know how many albums Bob uses or how he distributes the stamps. Since we have 56 stamps and only 6
colors, by the Pigeonhole Principle, at least one color must appear at least [56/6] = 10 times in the collection. But this doesn't tell us whether any album contains two stamps of the same
color, as the stamps could potentially be distributed so that no album contains same-colored stamps. Statement (1) alone is insufficient.
Statement (2): Bob places the stamps into 9 albums, with each stamp placed in exactly one album.
This tells us there are 9 albums, and all 56 stamps are distributed among them. However, without knowing the colors of the stamps, we can't determine if any album contains same-colored stamps. Statement (2) alone is insufficient.
Combining both statements: We know there are 56 stamps in 6 colors distributed across 9 albums. By the Pigeonhole Principle, if we were to distribute the stamps optimally to avoid having same-colored stamps in any album, we could have at most 6 stamps per album (one of each color). With 9 albums, we could have at most 9 × 6 = 54 stamps distributed without any album containing same-colored stamps. Since Bob has 56 stamps, at least 2 stamps of the same color must be placed in the same album. Therefore, the answer is "yes." The answer is C) Both statements together are sufficient, but neither alone is sufficient.

Given, Total stamps =56
Target Question - Is there at least one album that contains two or more stamps of the same color?

- Note that we don't how number of albums, number of category of stamps and number of stamps in each category.

(1) Each stamp in the collection is exactly one of the following six colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, or violet.
Now we know there are 6 categories and thus there is attest one category with multiple stamps. However since we don't know number of albums we cannot make nay prediction. Insufficient

(2) Bob places the stamps into 9 albums, with each stamp placed in exactly one album
Now, we know the number of albums, but we don't know how many categories of stamp are distributed among these albums. Hence Insufficient

Considering 1 & 2 together,
Distributing 6 categories of 56 stamps in 9 albums one can observe that, atleast one album must contain minimum 7 stamps, provided that there are only 6 categories therefore atleast one album must have 2 or more than stamps of same category or color.
Hence Sufficient

Bob is organizing his stamp collection by placing all 56 of his stamps into several albums. Is there at least one album that contains two or more stamps of the same color?

(1) Each stamp in the collection is exactly one of the following six colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, or violet.
We know the color of the stamp but nothing is known about the number of albums. What if there are total 56 albums? [Not Suff]

(2) Bob places the stamps into 9 albums, with each stamp placed in exactly one album.
we know the number of albums but not the colors. What if there are 56 colors (I know too many but who knows :)) [Not Suff]

Together sufficient: we have the colors (6) and number of albums means 56/6 and 56/9 at least 2 2 stamps will be left after putting 6 different colors into 9 albums.

IMO should be C.

Statement one gives us the number of colours and statement 2 gives us the number of albums

Thus the maximum different colours that could go into each album is 6, and there are 9 albums so it becomes a total of 54 stamps.

However, we have 56 stamps, so two stamps will go into the albums due to which the colour will be repeated. Hence, C

Yes it is very clearly and possible that there is an album with stamps of the same colours ,since 56 albums divided by 6 we get 9.1. also 9 albums divided into 56 we 6.1 therefore there is a possibility of album with stamps of different colours.

1) There are 6 different colors. With 56 Stamps, if he places 6 different colored stamps in 1 album. he will need a minimum of 10 albums so as to not repeat colors in the same album.
Number of albums not give.

Insufficient

2)Number of albums =9
Number of colors not given. maybe he has 10 colors. can place 90 stamps without repeating colors.

INSUFFICIENT.

Together testing for C

After placing 54 stamps in 9 albums. There will be 2 stamps left. Hence he must have at least 1 album with repeat color stamps.

Sufficient

Lets check the given statements,

Statement (1): Each stamp in the collection is exactly one of the following six colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, or violet.

The number of possible colors is 6.

It doesn't tell us anything about the number of albums or how the stamps are distributed.

Without knowing the number of albums, we cannot determine if any album has stamps of the same color. For example, if there's only one album, and all stamps are different colors, then no album has two or more stamps of the same color (but this contradicts having 56 stamps and only 6 colors). If there are 56 albums, and each stamp goes into a different album, then there are no two stamps in the same album, let alone two of the same color.

Therefore, Statement (1) alone is insufficient.

Statement (2): Bob places the stamps into 9 albums, with each stamp placed in exactly one album.

The number of albums is 9.

It tells us the total number of stamps is 56 (given in the problem).

It doesn't tell us anything about the colors of the stamps. If all stamps were the same color, then any album with more than one stamp would have stamps of the same color. If all stamps were different colors, and there are 56 different colors, then it's possible no album has two stamps of the same color (if each stamp goes into a different album, but we only have 9 albums, so some albums must have more than one stamp).

Therefore, Statement (2) alone is insufficient.

As statements alone not sufficient, now lets consider Statements (1) and (2) together:

Total number of stamps = 56

Number of albums = 9

Number of possible colors = 6

Now, let's consider the worst-case scenario where Bob tries to avoid having two stamps of the same color in any album.

Consider a single album. To avoid having two stamps of the same color, this album can hold at most one stamp of each color. Since there are 6 possible colors, one album can hold a maximum of 6 stamps, with each stamp being a different color.

We have 9 albums.
If each album holds a maximum of 6 unique-colored stamps, then the maximum number of stamps Bob can place without duplicating colors within any single album would be 9 albums×6 stamps/album (unique colors)=54 stamps.

However, Bob has 56 stamps.
Since 56 (total stamps)>54 (maximum stamps without color duplicates), it means that at least two stamps of the same color must be placed in one of the albums.

Therefore, there is at least one album that contains two or more stamps of the same color.

Both statements together are sufficient.

(1) Each stamp in the collection is exactly one of the following six colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, or violet. =>

This tells about the number of albums but we do not know the number of colors. if there are only 2 colors and 9 albums then there will be at least one album with two colors
lets say if we have 100 colors then. there can be one color in the 9 albums so not sufficient

Combine 1 and 2 =>
6 colors and 9 albums = 9*6 = 54 stamps
56 >54 then at least two stamps will have to have repetition hence this is sufficient

Stamps= 56

(1) Each stamp in the collection is exactly one of the following six colors: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, or violet.
There are 6 color stamps and total number of stamps is 56
Insufficient

(2) Bob places the stamps into 9 albums, with each stamp placed in exactly one album.
Number of albums is 9 but we don’t know all 56 stamps are of how many colors 2,4,8,56 .....
Insufficient

(1)&(2) together
Stamps 54 and colors 6 and 9 albums.
He can put 54/9=6 stamps or more or less than 6 stamps in 1 album
What if there are 6 stamps of each color and he places one stamp of each color in one album. Then answer to above question is No
If he have 50 stamps of a single color and 2,1,1,1,1 of other colors, then the answer is Yes
Insufficient

The first option just gives us the number of colors of stamps, which is not sufficient to answer the question.
The second option just gives us the number of albums, but there is no info about the stamps,so not sufficient.

However when we take both that is 6 colours and 9 albums,we can think of the best case scenario, how about 6 different stamps in all of the 9 albums ,so there wont be repeating of colours, but the stamps total would be 54 and we have 56 stamps which means for sure in one album there will be repeat of colours and we can answer the question.

So C is the answer.

1. If Bob has 56 albums, then he can place one stamp in each album. If he has only 1 album, then all 56 stamps goes in the same album.

The statement alone is not sufficient.

2. All it says that atleast one album will contain atleast two stamps. We don't know the number of colors of stamps Bob has.

Hence, this statement alone is not sufficient.

(1) + (2)

As bob has only 9 albums and six colors, he will have to place more than two stamps of the same color to accommodate 56 stamps.

The statements combined are sufficient.

2. If each album contains only single color, then max 9*6=54 photos. thus even the rest 2 are of diff color, they have to go in one album..YES
