bb,

I was hoping if you could guide me as to where to look if one wants to purchase Gmat Prep Pack 3 and 4.

Thanks & Regards

Hi. There is only GMAT Prep Exam Pack 1 and Test Pack 1. The Exam pack contains tests 3 and 4. As of this moment, Exam Pack 2 or higher do not exist. That may change in a week once the GMAC Summit takes place and any announcements are released (they are not expected as far as I know but you never know)

Hi BB,

I went through the whole thread but couldn't find concrete answers to the following questions. I was wondering if you could perhaps help me out:

1) What is the difference between the Exam Pack 1 and Test Pack 1?
2) I took the two exams in GMAT PREP v2, took each of the exams twice and saw a significant overlap. Do they update the question back of the Free Prep software? If so, do you know when the next update will be?
2a) I was planning to practice on my 2nd laptop and was wondering, if in doing so, i'll get a new batch of questions or will they be repeated since it's based on the software and not the email account/laptop?
3) Is there a tutorial on how to extract logs on a MAC? I saw the tutorial for extracting logs on a PC but nothing for a MAC?
4) From what I read, it looks like there is some overlap between GMAT prep V2 and the older versions: Is it worth taking GMAT PREP v1.1, v1, and Power Prep or are they too outdated and won't be a good indicator of the actual test?
5) Do you know if the two products on mba.com, the 2 exam pack and the 400 additional question pack, contain any overlap?

Thanks!

1) Exam Pack 1 has two new computer adaptive tests that run from a completely independent database. Consider these as two new computer adaptive tests with no overlap with any prior official GMAT content. When you say Test Pack 1, I am assuming you are referring to the free GMATPrep Practice tests(2 of them), there is no overlap between the questions in GMATPrep Free Practice tests and Exam Pack 1.

2) GMATPrep Practice Tests are drawn from a database of fixed set of questions. The database has been the same since its original release in early 2006. If you take the tests multiple times you will see repeat questions. At this stage I would just recommend you to practice from the entire set of questions that are present in the database. For example, in quant there are about 700 questions. Here is a post by carcass that gives you the file with the entire pool of questions: all-gmatprep-questions-quant-verbal-187679.html

2a) skip this, it would not be any different than repeating the tests on your existing computer.

4) No, instead do what I mentioned in point 2 above.

5) No overlap between Exam Pack 1 and Question Pack 1.

Dear bb,

Thank you for all your efforts to make GMAT experience easy for many people over the world.

You guys provided a link for the following downloads:

GMATPrep v2 2012 - Current
GMATPpre v1.1 2006 - 2012
GMATPrep v1 2005 - 2006
PowerPrep 1999 - 2005 (overlaps with OG)

Can I install all these versions simultaneously in one PC?

Is there overlap between the practice exams in these versions, or is it worth taking 2 free practice tests from each version?

I am sorry in case you have already discussed this issue before.

Thanks in advance.

I'm actually curious about this two, if the previous versions do overlap with the latest version, I don't see any point in having more than the latest version installed..

I have a question about current version of GMATPrep:

I and my brother want to use the GMAT Prep on the same computer (we have only 1 laptop). So I just want to know is it possible for us to log out User 1 in order to log in User 2 without resetting the data and score of User 1?

Thank to all of you.

Does this still still valid. Can i do the reset and take the test again.

Also i have possibility to install the software in different PC with different account. Would this be better alternative to resetting.

Collection of all SC questions from GMAT Prep (don't take these until you have exhausted all of the tests)

1. What is GMAT Prep and where to download GMAT Prep?:
GMATPrep is a GMAT Simulator software provided by GMAC (General Management Admissions Council) for free to help MBA applicants prepare to the test.
It can be downloaded from GMAC's official website (MBA.com) http://www.mba.com/us/the-gmat-exam/prepare-for-the-gmat-exam/test-prep-materials/free-gmat-prep-software.aspx

2. Why is GMATPrep valuable?
The value of GMAT prep is that it is able to predict one's GMAT score more accurately than any other product on the market.
The key lies in using real gmat questions and same testing algorithm as GMAT. Also GMAT Prep test has the same interface as the real GMAT test, so that the experience from taking the GMAT Prep is very similar to the one in the test centre . No other product is able to provide this value.

3. Getting the Most out of GMAT Prep
Now there is a number of different strategies on how to use GMAT Prep tests most effectively. And the answer to which one is the best, of course is — it depends.
Most people agree that its good to keep one test till the end of the preparation process to use it as an accurate estimator of the GMAT score.

Though some people recommend to take it more than two times... one or two extra times in order to get new questions. Some real fans even go to the extent of squeezing all the life out of it by taking the test until they don't see any new questions. It's up to you to decide whether this is a good strategy for you. But if you ever want to take GMAT Prep more then twice here is how to do it:

GMAT Prep "Reset" - Reinstall
1.Go to C:\Program Files\GMATPrep\Exams
2.Within the Exams folder, you should see a Practice Test 1.log and a Practice Test 2.log
3.Delete or I'd say move to other location both logs*
4.Relaunch the GMAT Prep software, and it should show you that both practice exams are now Not Attempted, and you can take them again.

GMAT Prep "Reset" - Reinstall in Windows Vista (Special thanks: to bigoyal for researching this)
1. Basically same as above only GMATPrep creates folder in following location:
C:\Users\{user_name}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\GMATPrep\exams
Note: {user_name} is your user name, it will vary from system to system
2. Usually you can go directly to AppData folder by typing in "%appdata" - in explorer window
3. Make sure explorer shows hidden files

Feedback from GMAT Club Members:
- Quant question pool is larger than verbal pool; if you take tests multiple times, the chances of seeing new question are higher for the Math section.
- Question pool for “hard” questions is fairly small and chances of seeing new questions when you get to 750+ score range is small.
- AWA questions are static and do not change

*To learn about GMATPrep Log files and how to read them, please see a post directly below

5. Want 2 more adaptive tests? Use PowerPrep
PowerPrep is the previous version of GMATPrep developed by ETS. This software product is no longer supported by GMAC and no longer distributed, but we have a copy. It uses the older GMAT interface and potentially an older GMAT algorithm. Here are a few considerations about using PowerPrep.
1.There seems to be no question overlap between GMAT Prep, and Powerprep
2.There is, however, a significant overlap between OG and Powerprep, so if you already worked on OG, your score might be significantly inflated
3.There are reports that PowerPrep isn't truly adaptive and not as good of an indicator of performance on the real GMAT.

Yes, you can still reset GMATPREP by pressing on the reset button inside the GMATPREP software. Does not take long for this to work. An alternate method (while keeping your earlier attempts is as follows, you just have to make sure to keep renaming the folders as mentioned below):

GMATPrep saves a file called ‘preptool.vb’ in the following (hidden) directory:
C:\Users\[replace this with your name]\AppData\Roaming\GMATPrep\Local Store\

This ‘preptool.vb’ file is the log and can be opened using a SQL viewer/editor. I used 'SQLite Database Browser 2.0' (free download)
1. Open the file with SQLite browser.
2. Click on the 'browse data' tab then select the 'table' of interest. The exam log is saved under 'used_items'.
3. Export the data (File>Export>table as CSV file). You can also browse the data without exporting.
4. Open the CSV file with Excel and you have everything you need. Answer choices and timing for each question.

Sections are numbered as: 1. AWA, 2. Quantitative, 3. Verbal, 4. IR. Peculiarly, questions are numbered from '0' not '1'. Quant questions numbers are prefixed with '187:', verbal with '188:' and IR with '211:'. Time is displayed in seconds.

PS. the (hidden) question pool is listed in C:\Program Files (x86)\GMATPrep20XX\pack0\pack0.db
PPS. there is a (hidden) file, intriguingly called 'scoring.db', in C:\Program Files (x86)\GMATPrep20XX\

Make sure you don't miss ANY "easy" or "medium" questions. You absolutely can't score high if you miss these. Most aspiring 700 scorers focus all their time on the most complex/confusing questions they can find. I would ONLY focus on these once you've MASTERED the easy/medium and regular "hard" questions.

Good news, it's a very learnable/trainable test, and I personally jumped 90 points in one month of solid studying (20+ 4 hour study/practice sessions) to obtain a score I'm quite happy with.

Keep spreading happiness

Hi guys,

Since I couldn't find any information for a hard reset of the Mac OSX GMATPrep scores, here we go:

To do a HARD reset of scores from previous tests and exercises, you have to delete the following files (i recommend making a backup of it first):

preptool.db and scoring.db

You will find those files there (you need to see hidden files and folders to go there manually via the Finder):

/Users/*NAME*/Library/Preferences/GMATPrep/Local Store

Be warned, deleting preptool.db will also delog you in the software. You will have to enter your info (login/password) again.

Take care!

Attention Mac Users: As you might know, the original version of GMAT PowerPrep was not Mac compatible, but I do have the old Mac versions of GMATPrep if anyone is interested. I've heard/noticed that there are some compatibility issues with the newest OS (10.13.3), so it might be helpful for Mac users to have older versions of the software.

I used to keep a PC laptop/desktop at the office for the sole purpose of running the GMAT PowerPrep software, so I was relieved when GMATPrep was released in a Mac-compatible version.

After I downloaded the GMATPrep software, I tried to launch it but it asks me to register with the same credentials as used for registering in the official GMAC website. I am using the same credentials but the message I get is "We are unable to contact the GMAC servers now. Please check your internet connection". My internet connection is fine. Can anyone please help me on this?

Thank you in advance!
