Hey 1st year UNC MBA and happy to help. This time last year I was down to Kenan-Flagler vs Emory myself. Here was my process: yes Emory has the consulting advantage mainly due to the Atlanta presence. The thing with consulting is it’s tough anywhere you go. You’ll have to be a great networker and a great caser so I would not put all your eggs in the consulting basket. That is why I chose to attend UNC due to the strength of things besides consulting. We send grads to the same consulting firms (mainly in Atlanta anyways) but we have the benefit of being really solid in tech, finance and healthcare. Emory is a great school don’t get me wrong but you want to come to UNC to cast a wide net especially in tech. Also check out the employment report. Emory sends 60% to the south where as UNC sends grads everywhere. You can see yourself on the employment report. You can’t go wrong with either school but especially given scholarship money is the same, we send grads to same consulting firms Emory does in Atlanta AND we are much stronger in tech makes it a no brainer. Plus Atlanta is a $100 45-minute flight away and chapel hill is a neat place to be for 2 years. Good luck!

Those are great points. Mind if I PM you? Have some questions on the tech opportunities in KF.

Hey Gauthamkailash ,

Congratulations for the two great admit. I am about-to-be Emory Alum here. :)

I agree with almost all the points mentioned above and most importantly I would prefer to go for a STEM degree program considering very few opportunities available for International students and STEM degree will open a better opportunities. Emory is still in the process of getting the STEM authorization and it might happen that they get it before you graduate. But since you have almost a similar opportunity right now, I would recommend going for UNC.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck and enjoy your time now. :)

I agree above, similar tier programs, solid t20. UNC probably has the slight national reputation edge over emory is is a bit better across the board. Plus same $ with STEM, I think UNC is the best decision here.

I wanted to come back here and throw some kudos and appreciation for abhimahna - he goes to Emory but still had a fair and objective opinion favoring UNC for your goals. We need more people like abhimahna!
