Hi,
Being a non-engineer female, you have an edge over other applicants as you can greatly contribute to the B school batch diversity in terms of academic background and gender ratio. You have a decent academic track record which needs to be substantiated with a 700+ GMAT score to make a strong application. With your profile, you can apply to IIM ABC & L.

Coming to your work experience, you have many strong points that you can highlight in your application –
1. During your work tenure at SBI, merger and acquisition of SBI and associate banks took place. You can share your direct or indirect experience of M&A in your application.
2. You have the unique experience of working at PNB when it went through a troubled time in 2018.

You have also mentioned about a gap of 1.5 years in your career. Work experience gap is generally not considered positively by the admission committee. But since you are from public sector background, you can pitch in differently. Getting a Govt/PSU job is possible only through national level exams which take a lot of effort and time. We have examples of many such cases of successful candidates with work ex gap who have made it to top B schools. You need to show your application in a very different way to convince the adcom. There are other unique ways to turn this gap into your strength especially from PSU perspective.

Feel free to register for a free admission counselling session to have a one on one detailed analysis of your career and future.
All the best!

Hello Shan,

You have a good profile overall and do bring in diversity to the applicant pool at IIMs (majority from the IT sector). Your experience at the PSUs and especially the banks, will definitely add to the experience of the class. Do aim for a 700+ on GMAT but any score above 680 should work.
Regarding the break, it is not usually considered positively by the adcom but you should be upfront and authentic in your reasons. Any 'storytelling' there can easily be seen through by the interview panel.

All the best!

Request your views on below profile (I am targeting ISB IIM ABC)

QUESTIONS:
1. How does this profile look?
2. What would be a good GMAT Score for CO '22 intake?
4. Areas of improvement?

Hi gaurav25101994,

You have a decent profile for the IIMs (rich work ex across technology). Acads are below average and there isnt a great deal of work-ex Moving from software engineering to consulting is a good step forward in your career. For ISB, you'd need to bring out the diversity element a lot in your essays and the overall application. A GMAT of 700+ should bode well across all schools.
In any case, you should start working on your application asap since you won't have enough time after your GMAT. IIM As R1 deadline is 31st Aug 2020 and ISB's is 20th September 2020.

All the best!

First 7.5 yrs as Assistant Manager in SBI and then joining as a clerk in PNB. You have to have a clear answer for going against the career progression. Also, try to get done with GMAT as soon as you are ready.

Hi Vikram,

I am considering your career journey as an Analytics professional for 7 years. Although I am a little confused about why you write about being in sales and marketing and working as a panel engineer at RIL (it seems there are two profiles here).

Using the information given here (analytics), I think you have a good enough chance to get into the indian b-schools. However, a strong application and impactful essays will be essential to maximize your chances.

For any other queries, PM me.

Regards,
Tridisha

Hi Arvind,

With 14 years of strong experience and international experience, you have a strong chance to get into Indian B-schools. However, 560 is a very low score and you should aim at increasing your score to match the class average.

An impactful application and essays will maximize your chances of receiving an admit. Your application should highlight your career progression, varied roles and your learnings, explain the gaps and show clarity in thought for your future goals.

For additional queries, you can PM me.

Hi aggvipul

You have given very limited information. However, with a top-level glance, the profile looks good for Indian B-schools. While your GMAT score is less than the class average, you can definitely make up for it with a strong application and essay. You can try for IIM (A, B, C), ISB; other schools include IIM L, I, XLRI, MDI, etc.

Tridisha

Hi Whitemirror,

You have a strong profile, but since you belong to the over-represented IT group, it is key to increase your GMAT score, if you can. Although, we have seen many get in with a 700 score too and with a very similar profile.
Additionally, to differentiate yourself, focus on building a strong application, highlighting key points and showing clarity of thought.
Your focus should be on presenting a stellar application to the admissions committee.

You can PM me for further questions.

Regards,
