Hi Dhruv,

Yes absoultely, you do stand a chance to get an admit into a school of your choice. However we do understand, atleast for ISB, you fall into the majortiy pool of applicants and therefore it wil be criitcal to make the profile stand out. Now there are two ways to do that. First your GMAT/GRE score needs to be above par as it will be one true reflection of your scholastic ability on a comparable scale with other candidates from similar background. Target score for GMAT would be any solid 3 sigit score starting with 7 :)

GRE scores have recently been introdcuced for ISB therefore there isn't enough data point to derive a ballpark number. You can use this comparision tool to estimate the ballpark https://www.ets.org/s/gre/flash/bschool ... 17302/170/

Secondly even in your pool of applicants, there are stories and work profiles that stand out. Your effort should be focussed on harnessing these aspects of your profile. These need a lot of analysis and reflection.

We will be happy to help you with the process.

Hi All,

I am a master degree holder in Mechanical Engineering from IITG, followed by working in Pfizer pharmaceuticals for 2 years in SAP -manufacturing execution system. Now I decided to pursue an MBA in ISB. I am currently ready to take my GMAT very shortly. But I am not sure if my profile suits the program and if yes, what is the GMAT score I must target? My academics are :
SSC - 94%
+2 - 83%
B.Tech - 8.5/10
M.Tech-9.1/10
In total, I have around 3 years of experience . Any evaluation would be very much appreciated.

It is hard to say given the brief description you have provided. Because the GMAT score is just one part of the application. A lot depends on you career progression, extracurricular activities, essays and future goals etc. I am assuming you would be having around 4 years experience until the next intake (in case you are targeting 2018 intake) which is good enough. Target a 700-720 at least and you should be comfortably placed given your consistent high scores in previous academic pursuits. However, quants should not be a problem for you considering your engineering background so focus for a high score there. It will be hard for you to justify a lower score since you come from an IIT background.

HI Tanmoy,

Since i am also like you working as a Mechanical Design Engineer and preparing for GMAT and want to apply for ISB, LSE,IIMs. I will be feeling happy to review your profile. I think you have a very good profile and SPJIMR itself is a renowned management college in India. but you didnt specify your university where you pursued your engineering.
In my opinion, you should approach to a score 700-720 in GMAT. You also mentioned that you have worked across various geographies which means you have international experience as well so it will be an advantage on your resume.
I think you should also elaborate some volunteer experience on your resume while submitting the application if you hd never been a part of a volunteering organization then you can work on this field as well. You can also sell the story of your entrepreneurship if you actually did it in your life.
Hope it helps you.
Thanking you and best of luck for your future endevours

Hey Chetan,

Your profile is good. A lot depends on your post MBA goal. Their is increased scrutiny at ISB for folks greater than 6 yrs exp. As far as GMAT is concerned a 720 is a good score to target.

Hi Tanmoy,

With 13+ years of work experience, you will be at the far end of the class age range at ISB. I will suggest that you apply to the IIMs for their executive MBA programs as well, so as to maximize your chances of getting an admit this year.

Also, ISB has started an executive MBA from last year- PGP Pro. Check that out.

Hi Chetan,

Its always beneficial to score 700+ in GMAT for these institutes. DO realize however, that GMAT is only one component in the application process- the rest of your profile carries a huge significance as well- this year we successfully helped an applicant gain admission into IIMA PGPX with a score of 600.

In your case, your extensive experience, international work exp. and a definite need for an MBA considering your career goals will be super crucial to make a good impression on the admissions teams.

HI Ankit,

The stats look good! You will have time to retake GMAT before the deadlines.
A lot is going to depend on the execution of your application - the quality of your examples in the essays, the reason for an MBA, your leadership examples and career progress - all of these will be important factors.

Many applicants do get in at ISB with a 680 GMAT score (including two of our applicants with similar backgrounds), but considering that you have time on hand, a retake will be helpful.

Hi Ankit
You can get in with these, but it would be best to target a retake of GMAT, and score a 700+. That said, even by making a strong application based on other components, you can get through. If you need help, please feel free to PM.

HI Pritam

Please post further details on your work, extra curriculars, and key leadership experiences. Broadly, judging only by what you have posted (not a comprehensive evaluation by any standards), you should be in contention at ISB.

Hi,

I completed my Btech in 2011 from mechanical engineering domain. I was working with a research firm Evalueserve in the Intellectual Property domain from Dec 2012 to July 2016. I was involved in patent drafting in the firm for our US clients. My credentials are:
10th - 80.6 %
12th - 74 %
Graduation - 66.5 %

I have not been working since July 2016. Does this gap of 7-8 months hurt my chances of getting into ISB? Further please evaluate my profile. I am planning to apply for class of 2019.

Thanks!
