Hi all, my first post on this forum - please be gentle :-)

Wish I had read some of these posts before I submitted the video essays, but clearly I've been living under a rock.
Did fairly well on the first 2 video essay questions - the Icebreaker and what path, why Kellogg. Ran out the clock while still speaking for the 3rd question :|
Did not wear a suit though. I thought Kellogg clearly mentioned (somewhere) that dress shirts are appropriate and accepted. Why are people on this thread so particular about the suit?

Agree with Souvik. No worries if you didn't go suit. There are a couple reasons one would choose to have suitted up:

1) If you aren't sure - better safe than sorry. First impressions and all that.

2) It helps people set the tone and feel professional (re: Souvik).

3) Some random reason. Me for instance, at 26 years old I look like I'm 22 so I felt a suit would help mature up the look. I then babbled like an idiot but hey, I looked amazing doing it ;)

If you would have felt comfortable wearing what you did to a nice dinner it was probably enough, as long as you weren't wearing it like this:

I did not wear a suit I wore a purple business casual blouse. Same for Yale. Except a blue blouse. Subliminal messaging and such.

Haha. I used the maroon and gray colour scheme for my Booth PPT. Things they make me do.

When did you submit? I submitted pretty early and still haven't gotten my assignment. I'll probably be doing an alum interview though. Plenty of alumns in my city which is a big business hub.

I submitted my app 2 days ago at the deadline and then my video essay a few hours ago. I think it's because there are no alums in my city so auto-skyped?

Very interesting, this just confirms it has nothing to do with when they receive your application.

Also interesting because despite living in a large city I'm struggling to find any Kellogg alumni on linkedin so desperately hoping not to get a waiver or something. Congrats on the interview though I know it must be a relief to have it even if you were confident it was coming!

I’m in Mumbai and i’m sure there are kellogg alums. I still ended up getting a waiver last year and despite what’s on their blogs, I strongly believe with a waiver your chances are reduced eventually. Ugh. I didn’t anticipate how hard this period was going to be.

Just finished video essays a couple of hours ago. Got psyched for nothing. It was pretty straight forward. I felt the less you think the better you'll do. 1 min is a ridiculously short amount of time to orchestrate a rapturous story. The first 2-3 points that pop up in your head for a question are probably sufficient.

I'm so surprised that interview invites are rolling in already! I thought they'd take at least 2 weeks. If Mumbai got waivers, I wonder what will happen at Bangalore.

I know for a fact that tons of people in Mumbai and Bangalore interviewed while I got a waiver. Do what you want with that information, but I feel waivers are not always because of geographical challenges. I think sometimes they have other criteria.

That's uplifting. Have you made any guesses as to why you got a waiver?

Skype interview invites might be a function of sum total of all people who want Skype interviews vs. available slots. If the latter is more, the system would generate invites.

Edit: Application in on 9/20 and Video Essays on 9/21. I think my 'goals' answer wasn't as solid as I would have liked it to be, but I would like to believe I was relaxed through all 3.

Ah...Like you, I applied last year, and am reapplying this year. The 1 year focused maturity shows in the essays. Wish you the best!
