Hi folks !

I have a question.

I got an admit from ISB and the program begins in April but I am waiting for results from Tepper and Kellogg.

Since I wanted to spend some time with the family , I resigned in Februray to stay with family for around 1.5 month.

At the same time , if I get a positive result from either tepper or Kellogg , I might be jobless for next four months. Will this affect my application or post MBA prospects ?

Hi vj1994!

First, congrats on your admission to ISB and best of luck on the Tepper and Kellogg applications. Since the admissions committees are evaluating your candidacy on the basis of your work up until now, I don't believe that the short break in employment would or should have any bearing on your applications.

Good luck with your next steps!

I generally recommend that people not make any decisions like this until they have an offer in hand. So I would not necessarily volunteer this to your Kellogg interviewer unless asked directly. The reason is, now you will have a gap on your resume that you'll have to explain to Kellogg recruiters, which is a bit of a red flag. It's something explainable but it's not optimal you know what I mean.

I guess I will wait till March 4th then to know the decision of tepper . If I have to go to ISB , then I don't look for work or else I will have something lined up to fill the gap on resume

did any 1 year applicants get an email from current 1Y students? A friend of mine got one - is there any read through from this. The email said that the adcom informed that he applied in R2 and that the wait was long and that if he had any questions, to let the know

Has any other 1Y applicants gotten this email or do they only send it out to applicants who they are considering admitting (I haven't heard anything).

TIPS FOR VIDEO ESSAYS/QUESTIONS

For those applying in Round 3 deadline, here are some of our tips to record high-quality video answers for your application.

1. Dress appropriately: Treat these videos as mini-Skype interviews and you should be dressed accordingly. Ideally you should dress in business formals.

2. Posture matters: Though mostly your torso up would be visible on the video, this is not the time and place to sit relaxed or slouch. A good posture will make you appear attentive, alert and make a positive impression.

3. Be upbeat and smile: Display your enthusiasm for the school and the process by being cheerful and in good spirits. Speak loudly and clearly and when appropriate smile. Although you are in a strict professional context, you don't need to be gloomy and serious. Think you are talking to your manager who is also your friend and speak with that mindset. :)

4. Suitable background: Keep a clean, neutral background. If possible have a light colored wall / curtains as your background. Avoid busy/distracting prints.

5. Look into the camera: You want to appear talking to the person who would be watching your video, so try to make direct eye contact with them. Avoid looking away or down.

6. Light from front: Position the light source in front of you so your face/ body is lit properly. Avoid placing lights on side or in the back/ top.

7. Good audio: Check your audio/ mic a few times and listen to your recorded voice. Avoid using headphones/ earphones - they tend to look clumsy and distracting, unless you are using wireless ones/ or black ones that are non-intrusive. For most part the mic in the laptop would be good.

8. Frame properly: Keep the camera at your eye level and frame in a way to place the top of frame close to top of head and bottom just above the waist. Also place yourself in the center and avoid anything in the background.

9. Minimize background sounds: Aim for a quiet place with minimal distractions. Turn off your email, text, Facebook, Skype, Twitter notifications both in your cell phone and computer system.

10. Script before you speak: Take time to note down bullet points and practice/rehearse before you start recording.

If you need help with your application, feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected] :)

Good luck everyone!

I have a mild stutter since childhood. And I did stutter in my kellogg interview with the adcom.
Speaking to a screen (as the interview was over skype) only added to the issue.

Is stuttering a Strict No-No for MBA interviews?

Pls be honest - Politically right replies though soothe the heart don't reflect the absolute truth.

Regards,
Harvey

Although I indicated that I will apply for Financial aid from Kellogg, there is email or nothing updated on my portal about financial aid - that makes me confuse. What is the deadline for the financial aid application? Should I email to Admissions regarding this issue?

Yes, you will be notified if you are denied admission, although it will likely be closer to or on the stated deadline of 3/25.
