Hey there, first year mba at UNC Kenan-Flagler. Congrats on two awesome admits. Tepper and UNC are pretty much in the same tier so that debate should be over. When it comes to your goals I can only speak to the opportunities at UNC as I just wrapped up recruiting. I ultimately ended up in Product Management for a Fortune 100 company this summer in NYC and I can tell you that general management and internal strategy is very very strong at UNC. I’m sure tepper is great in many of the same things but I just went thigh it and you will have plenty of opportunities at UNC. Chapel Hill is also a beautiful place to go to school especially if you love sports and great beer. Can’t go wrong with either but wishing you the best of luck.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

Would you mind sharing a bit on your thoughts on life and social opportunities in Chapel Hill as an MBA student? My (likely unfair) perception is that it's more a town for undergrads than grad-age students. I am coming from Boston, so I perceive Pittsburgh to be a more similar atmosphere. That said, everyone I have spoken with says Chapel Hill is awesome, but I won't have a chance to see for myself given the pandemic.

Yeah sure! I’m coming from NYC and Philly so I am very much a big city person myself. I was also unsure if the transition to a small college town. I do have to say I love it here. First it is true that chapel hill is a charming college town but we are also in the Research Triangle Park which is up and coming and very populated. So even though chapel hill is a smaller feel, a 15 minute drive or Uber will get you to a more medium city feel especially in Raleigh. Besides that, chapel hill offers so much to do. Live music, farmers markets, coffee shops, incredible food, breweries and bar options are plentiful. Also, the sports scene here is incredible. You can’t beat college basketball and watching unc take on duke. (You are guaranteed a ticket for duke vs unc your 2nd year) plus the student lotto go any game is free to us. There is the unc Botanical garden, trails, hikes and so many bike trails. I have no been bored once here and cost of living is cheap. It’s somewhere you need to visit to understand. I think it’s also the best happy medium when it comes to school. The reason is a small college town allows you to get close to your classmates much easier than a city and the fact that we have Raleigh 20 minutes away doesn’t take away from your city life. I love it here and I’m sure you would too.

Hi everyone - just wanted to keep this thread active to gather feedback from anyone else that may have insight to share on these programs.

I will hear from Foster in a couple of days, so that may enter the mix to consider as well.

Thanks everyone.

Hi all. I have made the decision to attend UNC Kenan-Flagler.

I am now exploring the idea of pursuing a JD/MBA dual degree offering. Do you have any tips/ideas of sources I can explore for insight on this program at a school of this general ranking?

Thanks!

Congrats on the decision!

As to JD MBA, it will take 4 years at UNC and at Tepper https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/progr ... egree-mba/ (I remember when some schools were offering a 3-year JD/MBA but it seems those days are gone). I am not sure you want to stick around the program for 4 years. You would spend the first 2 years in the Law School, however....

I see that the “preferred” order of years begins with 2 years of law school, but I am curious what flexibility may be there. I am also wondering how K-F compares to UNC Law in terms of admissions competitiveness, relatively speaking. K-F is T20 MBA, & UNC is T30 Law. I know nothing of the LSAT, but it looks like I’d need to complete it.

Congrats on your decision marditte. We are so excited to have you in Chapel Hill, you'll love it. 2 of my classmates are JD/MBA's. They don't seem to be ambassadors, so if you are interested, I am happy to see if either of them would be free to chat and give you better advice on the JD/MBA experience. PM me if you are interested, and again congrats!
