My doubt is similiar to sridhar's here. I'm planning to fund the MBA via a loan, and obviously I cannot show that amount in a bank statement right now. So, what can I do about this right now? Do I simply not upload the i20 documents?

- You can upload a draft/summary of your proof of financial status, together with the application.

- The proof of finances, the final stuff, required at the point of visa issuance, by the immigration officer at the embassy.

In my old life, i submitted a draft/summary of my finances with my application. After admission, the school sent me an I-20 form, a letter of support, and my financial award document. The letter of support (addressed directly to the visa officer at the US embassy in my old country), stated that 'our college, great, endowment $1b, etc...that, the financial award given to the student will be available/guaranteed for the duration of study. The 'proof' of finances that i had submitted with the application was thrown in the trash!

- The proof of finances that u upload with the application, irrelevant. The proof of finances you take to the US embassy in your country to get your sweet FI 'non-immigrant' student visa, BIG deal.

Hi everyone,

I submitted my application to UIUC on Nov 3rd (the deadline).

Now the wait starts. If anybody could give us tips for the skype interview (since I am an international applicant), it would be great.

Regards,
Sridhar

Hi Sridhar,

UIUC offers skype interview and in-person interview with its B-school representative. In India, Mumbai, Delhi and I guess Chennai and Banglore are the locations where the school representative is on a one day long visit each.

If you opt for skype interview, I have heard that the interview is conducted in 2 sessions. Once you are done with general interview where you talk about yourself, your goals, ambitions, why Illinois etc, a second interview invite is sent wherein you are asked to solve a case.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,
Aditya

Point of correction: I attended the interview tips presentation on Tuesday, Nov 5. The admission officer said the 'case interview' part has been suspended this year. So, do not worry about solving a case related question during the interview.

I just wanted to point out... If you are from India, turn in your application, now! If you are lucky, they might consider you for R1. Why? The adcom said that all seats for applicants from India were filled in R1 and that if you are planning on applying R2 this application cycle, you have to ask the adcom first, to see if there are still seats left.

The adcom said that it takes them about two weeks to organize the application files following the application deadline. I would expect interview invites to go out after November 18.

Hi All,

As correctly pointed out by some of you, Illinois MBA encourages Indian applicants to apply early (by R1) to secure a good chance of admission with a hefty scholarship. But make sure if any part of your application still needs refinement, it is better to wait till R2 to present a strong application than turn in a weak one. For people who have submitted in R1- Good luck for interviews.

Importantly, Mark Lockwood, Director, Admissions is traveling to India from Nov 18 through Nov 25. Make sure you reach out to him as he is especially there to provide you first-hand info about the Illinois MBA program. This would be a great networking opportunity.

Best,
DJ
