OK, this is really silly, but I think I'm actually getting more nervous about my bank appointment than I ever did with any b-school application outcome. I'm SO close to going to either of my dream schools (haven't made my mind up yet) and I do have an oral agreement on financing from my bank, but what if something goes wrong and there I stand, with admits but no money? Aaaarggh.... someone bring me peace and a calm mind...

Which are the top 2 from your list (Hult (R1), Judge (R2), Saïd (R2), Katz (R2))?

Meh, darn IE! As I was reading it, IE "helpfully" automatically shrank the image to fit to window. Frigging A! Now I have to figure out how to un-shrink it, and I'm too lazy to do it - insufficient ROI.

That would be Cambridge/Judge and Oxford/Saïd. Although I did get a considerable scholarship from Katz so I guess that could be a way out... oh please let it be Wednesday already.

And regarding the CV link posted above, who in earth would truly add a Forbes listing to the merit section? So funny... especially when you look at all the guy's done besides music - and compare it to his education. Respect.

ok. warning. rant to follow:

is anyone else annoyed-to-pissedoff about the late posters in your bschool threads? im starting to see some and im expecting therell be alot more of them in the coming days. the ones that show up just before final decisions come out? or even worse the day of or the day after w/ an admit? specifically the ones that profess to be long time lurkers? that dont contribute sht to the thread in terms of knowledge, pain or laughter? that dont even fill out their profile so they can at least be remotely useful? who just think they can just browse through and soak up our collective knowledge for no price of admission?

i say they should get their posts **expletive** deleted. do us a favor selfish newbies, stay wherever you were as an observer during our collective bschool process (it is the internet after all) but cry or rejoice in your own obscurity thank you very much. to the people that actually just found us, welcome and please fill out your side profile.

ok. this PSA is done.

I completely agree with your rant. It is "the internet after all"... After one of them "Lukerville" residents posted an admit on one of the other forums here, another blogger extended a hearty congrats and then asked for his/her profile. S/he posted a resposne refusing to "divulge" anything. Isn't that something?

I too feel your anguish quantjock and case2010. My heart jumps whenever I received notification emails, and I saw that most of these were 1-time posters without profiles. Sigh. Anybody care to recommend a generic brand to reduce heart attacks and anxiety? At least work and recent healthcare news are there to keep us occupied.

I propose the b-schools adopt the following standard format for correspondence on admissions decisions/interviews/etc.

Template 1: Information session/On-campus event 1000s of miles away from you

Subject: Waste of your time--do not read.

Dear Candidate,

Blah blah blah.

Sincerely,
School X

PS. Our filter for e-mailing specific demographics/regional candidates is terrible. Hope this doesn't sour your view of our program.

Template 2: Invitation to interview

Subject: We want you to interview

Dear Candidate,

See subject. Here's how to organize. Blah blah blah.

Sincerely,
School X

Template 3: Acceptance

Subject: You're in with $Y/year

Dear Candidate,

You rock. (Optional: Please accept this cheque to entice you.) We rock as much as you do, and then some.

Your best old buddies in the world,
Ad Com Chairman

Template 4: Waitlist

Subject: You're waitlisted--Your odds are 60/40

Dear Candidate,

We might consider you. Here are your odds. We will notify you of our decision by X date. (Really.)

Sincerely,
Ad Com

Template 5: Rejection

Subject: School X cannot accept (Your name)

Dear Candidate,

Here's a cheque for $20,000,000 to soothe your wounds. Sorry we couldn't admit you, but hope that this second-best option will give you some solace in this dark hour.

Sincerely,
Ad Com

I thought the same too, quantjock. I applied to many to diversify, and I have yet to hear from about half of my schools. I'm still trying to be hopeful for Booth.

Good luck to those who are still waiting to find out where they will be headed this fall.

In the meantime, here's an article on WSJ about successful individuals who had to overcome rejections earlier in his or her life.

Before They Were Titans, Moguls and Newsmakers, These People Were...Rejected

Mammoth post incoming( sometime over the weekend)

Few things I learnt in this app process

1) Life is not fair

2) No matter how hard you try, one day you'll come to terms with the fact that THE PLAYING FIELD ISN'T EVEN

3) You BUST your nuts, trying to do everything you can, but soon you'll know that there are MANY things outside your control.

Tucked away in your sub-conscious mind is a ray of hope, a tiny little spark capable of burning down an entire city.

Sooner or later you'll learn that you're in a fight. It's not about who your opponent is but about THE MOMENT in which you realize that the task at hand is far more difficult than you had initially thought; you realize that the fight will be lost but at the same time you say to yourself that THE FIGHT MUST GO ON

The spark should live no matter what.

PS:- I'm sure last few lines don't make sense
