Hi all,
I am starting to prepare for the gmat couple weeks ago and started with the verbal part and took the egmat course.
I started with SC, which is a very challenging part on the verbal section. I found myself a little bit lost during my prep and quickly understood that in order to improve i must read more and more english written text, articles, books and so on.
I am writing this topic in order to share my experience about this matter.
I brought subscriptions to 2 newspapers that are among the favorite gmat source of inspiration : The New York Time subscription is about 1$ for 4 weeks if you go only digital ... very convenient since you can access it on your smartphone, laptop and tablet The Washington Post subscription is about 30$ a year if you go on basic digital ... as for the NYT very convenient usage, moreover you have access to some interesting e-books which is a good material for further readings. The Guardian provides free content no need to subscribe for it Reuters provides free content also and no subscription needed
I highly recommend these 2 subs ... personally, i read these papers on my lunch break .. I am a non native speaker so I need to train on reading well written english in order to familiarize myself with the GMAT content.
I suggest we use this topic to list every other tips you guys have in order to make it easy for future users to find some reading material.
Kind regards

I am always a bit hesitant to buy newspaper subscriptions as the promotional rate will expire in a year or so. Also, they make it hard to unsubscribe. There is no way to cancel the subscription from online portal. We have to call.
Reading newspaper articles, especially those from opinion, review, and science sections, is a great way to improve GMAT's RC skills. That said, they may not help readers get the top score in SC. GMAT's rules may deviate from those used by newspapers, and newspaper writers can oftentimes make the very mistakes tested in GMAT.
I found reading to be very helpful during my GMAT preparation. I put together a topic called GMAT fiction to explain about the process and the advantages provided by reading complex text.

zhanbo even if journalists make mistakes, it's always a good material for non natives, meaning being used to read written english is far more valuable than just going through any prep method or database ... as a non native, i need to be used to written english and specially to complex sentences in order to avoid the element of surprise when i would face a massive RC or CR extracts or a very long SC sentence.

GMAC's SC writing is somewhat replica of university of Chicago's magazine writing. You can have pdf of this magazine in the web.
