Why B is wrong? The first is clearly a fact on which the argument relies on. Can someone clarify

IMO C

Here is my understanding of the structure-
Principle on which arguement relies on: Modern high intelligence safety chips more susceptible to interference

Consideration: arguement considered the case While on the road

Fact: a few cars with low-power circuitry veered off course while on the road, the controls jammed when the cars passed by power generators or transformers that generate high frequency electro magnetic waves

Conclusion: modern high intelligence safety chips are being put at risk by high frequency electromagnetic wave generators such as high intensity power generators and transformers.

Thanks

B is very extreme. It says that the conclusions must be drawn. Thats why it goes out

The difference between B and C lies in the meaning. B is saying that from the premises provided, the author's argument is the only plausible conclusion. This cannot be right. A different author can draw a different conclusion based on the premises given. Take note of the role of the modifier must in B. Must is too extreme per the context of the argument. C on the hand, says that the second boldface is the conclusion. This is right.

You can see the first boldface as a fact or a consideration that supports the conclusion (or main point). In other words, the description given for the first boldface in both B and C is irrelevant when choosing between B and C.

Quote:
B.The first is a fact that argument relies on and the second is a conclusion that must be drawn from this argument.
C.The first acknowledges a consideration that supports that main position; the second is that conclusion.

Ahhh! Thanks eakabuah! I'll look out for such extreme language going forward.
From the passage, I don't see any other logical conclusion. But perhaps in some other context, a word like MUST might have more significance.

Cheers,

The first acknowledges that there is an effect of Electromagentic waves on high intelligence safety chips, and it also supports main conclusion 2nd BF.

Quote:
E.The first is a principle that is necessary for this argument, the second is a conclusion that could be drawn from this argument.
The first is no way a Principle, eliminate outright!
A principle is a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system

Modern high intelligence safety chips, which are found in most of cars today, are made with low-power circuitry, which is more susceptible to interference than the analog switches used in older vehicles. While on the road, the chips receive electromagnetic signals from other cars and safety devices on the road. Recently, a few cars with low-power circuitry veered off course while on the road, the controls jammed when the cars passed by power generators or transformers that generate high frequency electromagnetic waves. Clearly, modern high intelligence safety chips are being put at risk by high frequency electromagnetic wave generators such as high intensity power generators and transformers.

The two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?

Source: crackverbal

(BF-1) Boldface-1: A general truth or a premise that provides information on the different sources from which the chips receive EM waves
(BF-2) Boldface-2: Main conclusion of the argument. We could identify that basis i. It has the conclusion marker 'clearly' and ii. It summarizes the data points presented in the passage on susceptibility of the chips to EM waves

E. The first is a principle that is necessary for this argument, the second is a conclusion that could be drawn from this argument
A. The first is a principle that the argument relies on and the second is a conclusion that can be drawn from the first
Options A & E: The second part is correct but BF-1 is not a principle. A principle stands for underlying rules whereas BF-1 states a general fact

B. The first is a fact that argument relies on and the second is a conclusion that must be drawn from this argument
The first part is correct but BF-2 is not drawn from BF-1. BF-2 is an overall summary of the passage. Plus, BF-2 is drawn from the first line are made with low-power circuitry, which is more susceptible to interference than the analog switches

C. The first acknowledges a consideration that supports that main position; the second is that conclusion
D. The first is an evidence that supports the conclusion, the second is that conclusion
Options C & D: The highlighted parts are the only difference between the two options

The second part is correct. If you look at the evidence that was used to make the main conclusion then that was the one about generators or transformers as suggested clearly by the last line such as high intensity power generators and transformers. C puts it in a more subtle way by stating BF-1 as a consideration (something that is kept in mind while making a decision or while evaluating facts), and is the correct answer.

Answer C .

Acknowledges a consideration means it approves/accepts a consideration .
Consideration -: high intelligence safety chips are susceptible to interferences.

How BF1 acknowledges it -: "chips receive electromagnetic signals from other cars". Electromagnetic signals are the interferences.
How the consideration supports the main position -: by providing a fact that "high intelligence safety chips are susceptible to interferences" hence they might put the safety at risk.

BF2 is the conclusion marked by the world "Clearly" . It also summarises the whole passage.

I marked C, But not sure why other options apart from B are wrong.
