A generous and helpful offer - thank you!

Would you be willing to share your reasons for attending the program and what your immediate/longer term goals were and whether or not you feel that the Wharton EMBA helped you realize them?

What other programs did you look at? Why did you decide to attend Wharton?

Strength and utility of the network you built?

Career management for the EMBA specifically and the availability of opportunities?

Appreciate your time and insight!

see below

Would you be willing to share your reasons for attending the program and what your immediate/longer term goals were and whether or not you feel that the Wharton EMBA helped you realize them?

dispensing with the canned stuff we all put in our essays (as well as reasons that are probably pertinent only to me) -- the signal and the network. and both are very strong -- everyone respects the name (its almost embarrassing and/or triggers sometimes unwanted very high expectations) and most members within the network will respond to your outreach efforts (and for whatever reason, new job, biz dev, etc.). also family was happy to see me continue the full court life press.

retrospective rationale (had no expectations at time) includes friendships and fun -- i spend most of my extra-office time with my old classmates (still going strong) and you will have an absolute blast in class and during the extras (parties, travel, etc.).

so yes; got what i paid for, and a little bit more

What other programs did you look at? Why did you decide to attend Wharton?

tbh, it was penn or bust; briefly looked at cbs but felt like a diploma mill (low bar to entry). i hope that earnest view does not irk anyone -- good school, but subpar part time programs when juxtaposed w/ penn.

Strength and utility of the network you built?

very, very high; nearly everyone responds when you email comes from a "upenn.edu" handle ... and so many grads in all (high end) walks of life .. but firmly on you to convert from after that initial email

Career management for the EMBA specifically and the availability of opportunities?

very poor -- this will be solely up to you. and no shame on dawn, peggy, diane, etc... hard for the program to tell employers they wont trigger churn, then turn around and do things designed to do just that. suspect this varies little from prog to prog given survival depends on employer backing

the guys that did the program right typically stayed fully engaged at work (non switchers) or spent more time networking than in the classroom and study halls (switchers). apart from mom and dad (and maybe your ego), absolutely nobody cares about your gpa -- spend that time busting ass at work or finding the next thing. dive into a subject if you have low opportunity cost time, or are really really excited. i render this view from the perspective of someone who graduate with a top tier gpa, and quickly realized towards the end of the program that i should have spent more time doing what i am now recommending...

Appreciate your time and insight!

Thanks again!

If you'll indulge me some more...

This may be difficult (or impossible) to answer and I appreciate that some level of speculation is necessary, but what would you say was the breakdown of switchers to non-switchers percentage-wise and, of the switchers, what was the conversion (success) rate?

I've also heard of cases of classmates forming start-ups. Any observations of this?

wish we had good data on this. probably exists. just not shared for obvious reasons.

my best guess is that ~50% of the student body enters with the goal of switching. at the end of it all, about 10% end up with new firms and/or in different industries.

so think 10 over 50 yields ~20%, which is not too bad. but, story and context paramount in how you think about the balancing 80% ... lot of people had trouble and stopped looking due to fatigue, decided the "grass wasnt greener", maybe still looking, etc. equally, tale for 20% important ... most successful switchers were highly, highly committed (think would rather not work than go back.. or at least told themselves that day in and day out), started very early (think start 6 months in versus 6 months away from graduation), and spammed the hell out of the universe (think 100 emails funnels down to 10 actionable chats funnels down to 1 offer). so the key takeaway is that with the right incentives/motivation and appropriate degree of expectations/work it is very doable... can think of at least 3 people quickly that landed great jobs very well outside their realms (pe, ib, etc.)

and ill have to cap by saying plenty of people totally satisfied with continuing the slog w/ their same employer

I've also heard of cases of classmates forming start-ups. Any observations of this?

lot of energy around this at the onset. ephemeral, though, as execution risk sets in, time demands mount, etc. can think of 2 that are still going and [reportedly] doing well. can also think of 2 that failed quickly.

recommend plugging in with full time on campus recruiting if hardcore switch desire (they will tell you no... so dont ask just do) and if startup interested connect with relevant departments (entrepreneurship), professors (ulrich) , etc.

In the stats, I see 1 Admit from R2. Is that even possible?

Yes, I had circumstances where I had to request early decision.

Hey, can you shed some light on how you requested early decision. I have to respond to a school before the R2 results come out and wanted to reach out for an early decision. Anything you can share? Appreciate the help

After reading through this forum I realized it wasn’t the best decision to post about early decision, so I won’t go into specifics of my own case. All I can say is that there’s no strategy in asking for early decision, just follow what it says on the admissions website.

Hi -
Congrats to those who are admitted. I'm still anxiously waiting for the decision.

Does anybody know why some ppl will get a call before the decision release date (3/25)?

Also, what time on 3/25 do we expect to see the decision result on the Wharton's applicant portal?

Much appreciated for a response if someone knows the answers.

For the students, who already got a call with Decision, all of them requested Early decision, no other reason.
Also, I was told results will be out on the portal today by End of Day EST.

All is well. Stay Hopefull, You will get in.
