I do not understand, what is the LOGIC used above?
Why are the two segments DE and AE taken to be 12?

Kudos for a correct solution.

We can see that line segments AB, BC, DC totals to 36.

Making DCE an equilateral triangle, line segments AE, DE will total to 24.

36+24 = 60

Answer: E

DEA is an equilateral triangle, sides DE and AE are of length 12 each.
