Hi there,

I have taken the GMAT yesterday for the first time and got a score of 640. I studied for 6 weeks prior to the actual exam and I am disappointed with my score as I do feel as though another month of study would help me to push my score up. I didn't have this time though as I was attempting an application for the 10th March 2017 at Cambridge.

Now for my question, is a 640 a reasonable score to apply with? Their site indicates an average of about 690. I have solid work experience (4.5 years) and a decent undergrad record (70%). I definitely can stand out in terms of applications (from a diversity point of view) as I a South African Engineer.

Any advice on if I should put forth an application for the 10th March or should I re-take the GMAT and apply again in 5th May?

Hey man,
Well it's all about context. It's not a good score if you know you can do better. I would suggest you read the following articles:

I hope this helps!!
Best,

Hello nrxbra001,

First, it's not the end of the world. Relax!

We strongly...read "strongly" feel that you should retake the GMAT once more. We got in touch with many Admission Directors and their words resonate the same thing - taking GMAT multiple times is not a bad thing, the bad thing is getting stuck at the same score multiple times

Think about it. If you feel you can do better, do it!

Please feel free to get in touch with us on the mail address below and we'll assist you!

Looking forward!

Hi there,
I think you are best applying now with the score you have. You can always take again and submit the score if something is better but at least this way you are in the consideration pool. I would suggest showing you are taking an MBAMath class or something like that if you have concerns on the quant score. Otherwise, I think just put your best foot forward and let the process unfold. Good luck!
