Congrats and keep it up! Posting your progress and your achievements helps to motivate yourself during those bitter moments (everyone has setbacks). Keep reviewing material you cover on a regular basis so you don't lose valuable tips (better, document them here).

You should do at least a third post.... ;-)

Hi there everyone
it's great to be here ^_^

About me:
my name is Kamyar, I'm a 23 years old Iranian student, in the last year of my industrial engineering bachelor. I've been working full time while studying for the past year (as an accountant) and I also have 2 year of military experience (mandatory military service). I'm also studying for the CFA level 1 in this December.

My goal or why I'm taking the GMAT:
my goal is to apply to a top MSF program in Europe, the US is out of the question (for now) since president trump's Muslim ban has affected the job prospects in a really negative way.

Intended GMAT score:
top 5% or 730+ (in all honesty I'm shooting for 760+ but I'm pretty sure i won't be able to achieve it)

Intended exam day:
February of 2018

why a journal / why now:
I know from all the other times I've tackled a big project, that keeping an online journal and surrounding myself with people who share or otherwise have already achieved my goal is a truly rewarding experience and it helps me keep my motivation high.
I'm also looking forward to your advice and potential question (not that i know much about GMAT, maybe about myself and Iran or something!?)

and although some of you might think spending 10 month on GMAT is a bit excessive I think that it's never too early to start, I can always take it sooner if I see I'm ready. and well I have somewhat of a unique circumstance.
being from Iran there are no GMAT exam centers in my country! so I have to go to turkey of UAE just to sit for the test. and considering the physical and mental toll (stress, waking up early and going to the airport, visa check, etc...) that taking GMAT in a country I'm visiting for the first time is gonna have on me and the relatively high score I want to achieve I think it's better to start as early as possible.

anyway, it's the first day of my studies and I hope we all have a fulfilling GMAT jorney and achieve our goals.

thank you for reading so far.

Best wishes for your exam :) Worry not about the hurdles ....

hi there everyone time for an update
first, I hurt my back deadlifting and was bedridden for a couple of days! already a great start! -_-
but other than that things are going... okay?
I decided to take the advice of bschoolboy2017 and got the manhattan guides.
so far I've read the first 6 the quant parts

3 days ago I started doing the OG quant problems (2015 edition) and I've been bombing!
the timing is not the problem as I've answered 90% of problems in less than 45-50 seconds. (the longest it took me to answer a question was 1 minute and 18 seconds)
but I'm nowhere near 100% correct answer rate which I honestly thought I could easily achieve

I've answered the first 140 PS problems and got 128 correct (91%) and the first 105 questions in DS with 88 correct answers (84%) which is really bad.

but at least I can hope that it'll get better.

but not a great first week by any stretch of the definition.

what do you guys think i should do? I have the knowledge. should I keep my focus on solving more and more problems?

many thanks ^_^

Also thank you so much bschoolboy2017 , spetznaz and of course bb. i really appreciate the support

I think your 90%+ accuracy is fine on OG questions. Why are you typically missing the DS questions? Is it a question-type issue (i.e. not familiar with DS strategy) or a content issue (the questions are tough)?

Also, have you taken a practice test? That would really help guide your studies (e.g. if you take a practice test and find out you are scoring Q49+, it would make sense to spend your time studying Verbal instead. Or at the very least, it could give some guidance on which topics to study.

well, the reason I miss the ds questions is because I don't solve them :?
I read the question, look at the data and then decide if they are enough or not. the upside is I solve most question really really fast (mostly around 13 seconds nearly all less than 30 sec)
the downside as you can see is that sometimes I think the data is not enough when in fact it is and well.... 84%

I should really try and up my pacing game.

do you think I should take a CAT right now, i wanted to avoid one at the beginning since I have a really severe case of test anxiety, but if taking it would really benefit me I'm open to taking one

I think you should. It will help you focus your studying and potentially save you many hours of unneeded studying of topics you have already mastered.

okay, I think I will do that. which CAT would you recommend I take first?
the one from the mba.com?

also, i should probably do the whole thing, right? you know right an essay and what not.

things has been going awful took two GMAT prep tests last week
scored awful on both of them

1st attempt: 650 / Q50 / V28
2nd attempt: 640 / Q49 / V28

I really need to do something about my verbal it's just awful and also my time management, I finish the test too fast with tons of leftover time.

the first test I had 30 minute left over at quant and 35 minutes left over at verbal
the second one I had 35 minutes left over on both quant and verbal

I have to do something about the timing and verbal and also something about the math I NEED the 51, I'm also going to use the GMAT score for my Ph.D. apply in 2-3 years and anything less than the perfect quant score would be a REALLY bad news.

I wouldn't worry about Q51- Q50 and Q49 are great scores. No program would ding you only because you got a Q50 instead of a Q51. In my opinion, I think you should ease up on the math and focus your studying on verbal.

yeah that's exactly what I'm going to do
maybe I'd solve some hard math question every day for 30-35 minutes but for now, all my focus will go to verbal and learning time management
right now I'm reading up on how people improved their verbal score
the first step is to write a game plan for my verbal
