Questions:
Do I have a shot at a program like Darden, Tepper, or Mcdonough?
Should I be considering an EMBA rather than FT? Why?
Is my GPA too much of a poison pill to consider an MBA?
Thanks for sharing all of this.
You have a very unusual and interesting background! (unusual = good!)
Nine years in IT leadership inside the US Senate - really rare!
and your elected board role is a real asset.
A 720 is solid. Your work experience is strong. Your leadership story is strong. The only real weakness is the GPA, and you’ll need to address it directly in an optional essay. The medical emergency explains the zero semester, and the rest you can frame as maturity and growth since then.
you absolutely have a shot at schools like Darden, Tepper, and McDonough (as well as Ross, Cornell and others!)
Should you consider an EMBA? this is really up to you. on the one hand, you’re already operating at a senior level, and many full‐time programs skew younger. But, if you are looking for a career switch/reset then full‐time makes sense.
Is the GPA a poison pill? No. It’s a hurdle, not a deal breaker. Your GMAT, your leadership roles, and your professional trajectory all help balance it. You just need to explain it clearly and take responsibility for the parts that weren’t related to the emergency.

Hi, as you have asked this before, I will try to answer shortly. A LOT will ride on your GMAT score, as well as on your GPA, extracurricular activities, internships and plans between the degree and the MBA...
Which colleges? Not many non-top-10 programs offer deferred applications, so go for all the top ones 😊
GOOD LUCK!!!
