Hey everyone! Looking for honest guidance from people who’ve been through the MiM application process 🙏

About me:
- Indian, 20 years old
- B.Com at a Panjab University affiliated college (non-elite)
- Sem 1 SGPA: 5.9 | Pending papers in Sem 2 & 3 (working on clearing them as already gave re appear exams as I had health issues and family stuff)
- ACCA: 3/13 papers done (Applied Knowledge level and paused for now due to toxic mentor and bad institution )
- Targeting MiM Sept 2027 at HEC Paris, ESSEC, INSEAD, ESCP, emlyon
- GMAT prep ongoing, target August 2026 through e-GMAT
- Cannot do in-person activities right now — fully remote accept for I have signed up in local NGO
- Also writing e-book and starting YouTube for documentary, experience sharing, giving knowledge on things I know or learning
What I need help with:

1️⃣ What extracurriculars actually matter for top MiM applications when everything has to be remote? (Forage, Inside LVMH, online consulting projects etc — am I on the right track?)

2️⃣ Is hiring an admissions consultancy worth it for a non-elite Indian profile? If yes, which ones actually helped you for French MiMs specifically?

3️⃣ How do I handle the pending papers and non-elite college story in essays without it hurting me?

4️⃣ Any general advice for someone 15 months out with this profile? And I am targeting R1 and R2

Your profile looks strong on the surface. The first thing that stands out is the career progression. Getting promoted twice within 3.5 years is always a positive sign and shows you're doing well in your role.

The fact that you've also mentored team members and played a key role in a large data migration project gives you some good examples of leadership and ownership.

I also like that your post-MBA goal feels connected to what you're doing today. Moving from Data Engineering into PM/Data Strategy is a logical next step and will be easier to explain in applications.

A few things I'd be curious about:
1. Do you work directly with business teams or stakeholders?
2. What got you interested in Product Management?
3. Any extracurriculars, volunteering, or side projects outside work?

Overall, I think you're starting from a good place. Strong academics, good career growth, and a clear direction. The GMAT will be an important piece, but once you have a score, it'll be much easier to narrow down schools and figure out which ones are reach, target, and safety options.

Hi @VeryJar
You actually have a more interesting profile than you might think. Teaching is not a common pre-MBA background, and top schools generally value applicants who bring different perspectives to the classroom. So yes, coming from education can be a positive from a diversity standpoint, provided you can show leadership, impact, and growth in your career.

For the GMAT Focus, I’d recommend aiming for a score of 655+ as a minimum target.
Without knowing your post-MBA goals, it’s hard to suggest schools precisely, but broadly speaking:
1. Reach: H/S/W
2. Ambitious but realistic: INSEAD, LBS, Yale SOM, Fuqua
3. Realistic (depending on GMAT and overall story): HEC Paris, IESE

Overall, you shouldn’t worry too much about coming from a teaching background. The bigger question is how you’ve made an impact as a teacher and what career path you’re hoping to pursue after the MBA.
