Congrats to all those who got into their desired schools this year. It's time to start a thread for members to share reviews/opinions of their admission consultants.

This post is in appreciation of MBADecoder and Namita Garg’s admission consulting services.
Quick Overview:
- Detailed and thought-provoking feedback on the essays
- Extremely patient - we easily went over a minimum of 10 edits per essay for all 8 of my INSEAD essays
- Excellent editing & writing skills; (Namita was able to summarise my company’s product better than I)
- Honest and candid- this is important to have in a reviewer as it’s very easy to get attached to what you write. You need unbiased feedback on the stories you pick and how you present them.
Detailed review:
I came across Namita on GMAT club in Jan. I was impressed by her thoughtful responses to applicants’ queries on profile evaluation threads and shot her an email.
We discussed my profile in detail, with Namita asking me pointed and relevant questions about my professional experience, my post MBA-goals, my interests and so on. Namita was honest from the get-go and painted a realistic picture of my options. She encouraged me to retake the GMAT and apply in a later round (INSEAD). This convinced me to sign up with her.
The process started with a mini-application I filled in for Namita. She asked about my past experiences, what I had learned in each of my roles, what I intended to learn in business school, what attributes I would bring to the table and so on. Every question had a ‘why’ undertone - which forced me to dig deep before answering.
This was a week-long process, post which we discussed my career goals at length. Niranjan, Namita’s colleague, drove this conversation and had very interesting insights and feedback. I always felt like I learned something new or had a new direction to think about after every conversation.
Post the career-goals discussion, we dove straight into the INSEAD application - an EXTENSIVE one! Although it’s 8 separate essay questions, it’s 1 large narrative of your story.
Namita would first analyse the question with me and we would then discuss potential stories. She was patient in her approach throughout, and her feedback was very pointed. There was never a “change your writing from XXX to ZZZ” it was always “Why XXX? How did XXX make you grow? What did you learn? How did you apply that?”
This changed how I viewed the entire application! We easily went over atleast 10 rounds of iterations for my essays. She pushed me to work on them even when I felt like I was done.
I also have to highlight Namita’s professionalism and effort, as my application timing coincided with a pressing personal period for her.
Overall, I’m happy and content with my final essays. I highly recommend MBA Decoder’s services!

I got to know about MBADecoder while I was attending one of those free GMATClub webinars. I had contacted a lot of Indian consultants and a couple of international consultants just to play around the waters. ApplicantLab also struck the right chord for me and I ended up taking both, Lab for its rave reviews, format and affordability and Decoder for a sanity check. I'll detail about my Decoder experience over here, with some reference to the Lab.
MBADecoder had a couple of positives and a few negatives for my experience. The best part was, the team of MBA graduate senior consultants that they have and specially Niranjan is a highlight. They talk from a place of been-there, done-that and also from a lot of experience of knowing what the applicants are feeling. Talking to him gave me some required clarity about i) my goals and if they made any sense, ii) will it make any sense to the adcom and iii) how to actually go from your strengths to your goals so that it makes sense for everyone.
Second good point was the resume edit section. Although I had created a resume as per Lab guidelines, I did a lot of edits with Namita which helped shape it up. At this point, I really needed hand-holding because I really couldn't see what was wrong with what I had written.
The few negatives will be mostly about application edit and school selection. I took advise for only one application from Decoder and did the rest on my own. I didn't rely on their school selection since they take somewhat conservative and safe approach. This is where talking to multiple consultants, especially the ones whose tone reflect equity, will help. A little intentionality and positivity here will go a long way.
About the applications, the help from Sachin was great! He picked up the right highlights from my experience story so that it looked impressive to read. Here again, my tunnel vision could have cooked a far jargon-version of it, highlighting EQ from events which were not really EQ driven. The questions (how, what, why) from Namita also helped me shape it up but a lot many times it didn't make sense to me and I skipped those in my final version. Here again, we might need to be more personally related to the story and generic question patterns don't help everything like a format.
