This is true. And there's some peace in that. I think we sometimes fall victim to outliers rather than real probability. I found myself constantly trying to keep myself grounded this entire application cycle. I've told myself countless times "HBS has an acceptance rate of ~10% or whatever it is. Statistically it's much LESS likely to get in than to receive admission." While I would be euphoric to just get an interview, it too is unlikely, and I play this game knowing that.

Hey guys, one question for you:

I´ve read in many websites that the chances of receiving an offer after you get an invite to interview is roughly 55-60% (Is this really correct?). Do you think that all the candidates that were invited to interview have the same odds of getting in or even if you do poorly on the interview day they´ll still look into the whole application before making a decision?

Thanks for your input! I was really surprised after I received the invitation to interview and I'd like to know what my chances are...

From all I know - yes, the interview matters. But it is not THE decisive factor. It is one additional data point. Your application will be evaluated holistically. That is why they take almost another three weeks or so after the last interview to release the final decision. If the interview was just a yes / no factor they could make the decision right after you submit your interview reflection.

So yes, most definitely prepare well, do mock interviews etc. - but don't go crazy about it! Good luck :)

Btw, this is based on internet research + current student and alumni info - but still just one opinion!

760 GMAT, Math degree from top 10 UG, great unique personal story (the only surviving member of my immediate family), work experience from a boutique consulting firm, dinged without an interview.

Just hoping Stanford sees a little bit more in me. I doubt I would have been a good fit for HBS if they don't even consider interviewing me.

It means waitlisted. From what I heard, you'd have to wait until R2.

Finally got my ding, I kind of lost hope after the 6th, so I wasn't setting my expectations high.

Is there any stat on the number of people who don't even interview at HBS, but still get into other M7 schools? Just mostly to make myself feel better :)
