As an international applicant, is it a bad idea to apply in R3?
I didnt apply in round 1/2 because of some potential personal commitments.
I'm an Indian Female with a 680 and a fairly strong professional profile (3 promotions in 40 months, international work ex., leadership positions, selective Ivy summer program etc)
If you feel that you have a strong profile, there is no harm in applying in R3. The only reason why international students are encouraged to apply by R2 is just to have sufficient time in hand for the Visa formalities. Having said that by round 2, around 80% seats get filled up - This is just my assumption and I may be off the mark on the percentage count. Since, you feel you have a strong profile, I would encourage you to apply to a 'few' schools where you think you can put your best foot forward. Make sure your goals are well defined.
Remember, just in case you plan to 'reapply' to these schools next year, you will have to write an additional reapplicant's essay. So on the hindsight, in case you can afford to wait another year, get your GMAT score above 700 mark and apply with an even stronger application with sufficient time in hand the following year.
