I thought I was waitlisted in R1 because of the delayed recommendation (firstly my recommender was on Covid and then there was some system issue, hence she needed to email the reco letter). And, in R2, they haven’t updated my result. After I ask through email, they have said they generally review waitlisted candidates in subsequent rounds and a vast majority of waitlist movement occurs in late spring to up to class start.

So, I might be wrong. They have WLed me in round 1 without interview but it was not because of late reco. They even interviewed me in R2 and they have found better candidates.

Does anyone have similar experience? at list waitlisted in one round and didn’t hear anything at next round?

You are not alone in this.

As far I know. Only one candidate waitlisted in R1 got his result.

On the other hand, I have received admission from a similar ranked university with 75% scholarship. But I would have given higher priority to UNC even with lesser offer.
