Congrats to all new admits!! I think it's time to let R3 applicants take over this thread. We have created a separate thread for admitted students here.. said-oxford-class-of-2018-calling-all-admitted-students-231099.html

Ladies and gents,

A couple of questions for you:

Any info regarding the GMAT scores for Said? 80% or 100% ranges, whatever is available will be great. Unfortunately, I did not seem to find any reliable information online as they don't seem to publish much on their scores.

Also, would anyone share their experience dealing with Essay 1: How do you fit with Oxford Saïd’s mission? Any tips/ideas/recommendations?

I see that Said asks for an academic recommender preferentially. Did anyone else find this guideline strange, as most schools prefer more recent recommenders, and some specifically advise against academic referees? I have my academic recommendation in, but I think a professional one would probably be more meaningful.

Thanks and good luck everyone!

hey charcb

You may have seen the class profile segment on the website (avg. GMAT @ 692) but I don't think we have middle 80% unfortunately.

On essay #1, I'd focus on breaking down SBS mission + Dean Tufano's vision video and talk about how you fit/will contribute to the school. Simply put, how are you aligned with the values of SBS and how can you contribute based on your past experiences. Clarify your long-term goal upfront or start by indicating what you are passionate about and how that fits with the school's mission.

The academic recommender is optional, i'd choose professional recommenders any day.

Good luck!

Thank you! What you said makes sense. I am conscious of my GMAT score (a 660), so when I saw your post and saw you were admitted with a score similar to mine I was encouraged! Said sent me an email when I submitted my score 'congratulating me on my competitive score' - not sure if they do this systematically for everyone, but was doubting it was competitive at all, hence why I asked about their GMAT ranges.

When did you hit submit?
If you have submitted the application by 6Th JAn and your recommender submitted it on 8th, then you will be considered for Round 3. Otherwise your application might be pushed to next round.
Do check with admissions committee regarding the same.

Hello Experts

I need a evaluation for my profile

I am 30 now.
CGPA 6.3
GMAT 690 Q 50 V 33 IR 6

Total experience 7 years
My job is into Design & development of trains & trams
I was one of the engineers who designed the Kochi metro, Chennai metro & Lucknow metro.
Kochi metro was the first metro that was completely designed in India. I was a major part in that project.

Leadership: I have nearly 3 years of team leading experience (team of 15-20). I also have 2 years entrepreneurship exp (have own coaching institute).

Volunteer work: I have set up a unofficial NGO (During my engineering) which helps flood victims in Odisha(India). We have worked for relief of flood victim in 2005, 2014 & 2015 ( we are a group of friends & some locals). Our educational institute provide free education for underprivileged students.
Work for a NGO that support child education.

Biggest question is should I retake GMAT exam? or my profile & GMAT score are good enough?

Regards
Alok

My 2 cents,

Your gmat is good but unbalanced.if i were you then i would focus on improving verbal score. I think a (49,35) is better than (50,33).

Rest of your profile is good but do show some proof of taking courses to compensate your low gpa and i guess another thing missing is international ex.

Cheers!

Most schools judge your round by the applicant's submission day - and allow some extra days for recommenders to submit. So as long as you submitted by the deadline, I think you are fine for R3. However, if I remember correctly, R3 was on the 6th? To be sure you can always call them.
