From what I've heard, Schulich is good for finance, as is Rotman.
For consulting, Ivey is numero uno followed by Desautels and Rotman
For a general MBA degree, or per se in Marketing/sales etc, I think Sauder will still be atleast equal with any of the top schools.
I have an admit from both and I am still thinking which one to go with.
Please share your insights, if you think what I mentioned is not true..

I am a prospective student...so below mentioned views might be not the whole truth, but they are after interactions with few alums, admission directors and extensive spade work on net...
The big 4 in Canada are (Ivey,Queens, Rotman, Schulich...in alphabetical order)
If one has option of Rotman then for finance as well as consulting ...its an excellent bet.
Now Ivey and Queens are 1 year program and Ivey is still the best for consulting and queens is probably best for finance (in Canada).
Then there is Schulich..yes it has excellent placement stats for finance(though 2nd to rotman), it is also very good in ancillary industries(its that they have good options for not just consulting but also marketing, industry,etc.) i.e. balanced career avenues.
So if we compare other schools with Schulich...i.e. Sauder and Desautel then hands down Schulich is considered better than those 2(again thats subjective judgement)
Desautel also has good consulting options but these are specifically for Montreal and as per my interaction, they did place 1-2 students in Mckinsey also, though for Montreal only. But here the question is whether you know french cause without it, eventhough Montreal is bilangual, it would be very difficult to get placement there(though not impossible).

Lastly Sauder is good, in many aspects, but still its location(i.e. outside toronto) and its reputation is not on par with these big-4 (including Schulich).

Hope that helps...Also if my views are not up to the mark...then I would like to know more...so do comment on this!!!!!!

Please note that all data you are looking at is for the Class of 2014, which passed out in April 2014!
Class of 2015 has been out in April 2015, but NOT one school has posted placement stats, 7 months after the Grad day. Only Sauder (UBC site) has some data, which is "average pay" of about $75K, which means nothing without the % jobs, median etc. It is a fact that the placement stats are dismal for 2015 due to the current state of the economy, and that has to be factored in, while making the final decision, I'd suggest. It may well bounce back by 2017 or 2018, which is another issue altogether of course, and something to be fervently hoped for.

Interviewed on 24th Jan, finished my video essay on 26th and within an hour of finishing my essay, got an admit letter........ :-D

Hi guys,

I have admitted to HEC Montreal and waiting for Schulich results.
I am a project manager with 11 years of experience and want an MBA in General Management.
I am comparing between Schulich and HEC. I understand that the Schulich has a better brand, location (Toronto) and 3 years WP.
On the other side HEC has short duration (1 year intensive MBA - 1 year WP - quickly go back to work), and fees (super low - 33k - 1/3 as that of Schulich) and very good quality education (spoke with alumni). The only downside is location (Montreal - i don't speak French)
I wonder if anyone of you considered HEC and chose Schulich over HEC ?

I sumitted my application on 15th Jan and completed the vieo essays on 18th. I still haven't got any call for the interview. Moreover, the application status is still "submitted".

Any idea till when I can get a confirmation from Schulich ?

I was told that I should hear back within a week.

Hope this helps for those of you who have yet to interview.

I remember the admission letter actually says that you can use that document for a study permit.
How do we apply for a work permit during the visa process?
Any idea guys ?

Hi Enym,

If you see my profile, you will see my GMAT score is totally a disaster for any application. But still, i decided to apply for my 6 target colleges, one of it being Schulich.

However, i have not been notified on my strengths by Schulich but still on the basis of interviews and other discussion with ADCOMS, below are some bullet points which i think got me the offer and i am expecting scholarship too.

1) Very simple and straightforward essays - I did not play with words and kept the essay very simple. I wanted to tell my story to ADCOM and i feel i was successful in doing so. Remember, you do not need to be shakespeare to tell your story.

2) Mining Experience - I had specifically applied for global mining management specialisation and because i have 10 years of experience in mining with 5 years international experience, it worked for me. I am working for world number one steel producer and i can speak spanish, english and hindi. These were few positive points.

3) Communication skill - I had a brilliant video essay where i kept it normal and tried to be simple and straightforward mixing with humours and smiling all through video essay. In addition during my interview, the interview was in a very friendly manner. Again, i kept the same insticts, simple with humor. My answers, however were descritpive but in simple words, attracted the ADCOM.

4) Reason of low GMAT - I kept the reason for Low GMAT very clear in application and interview . My academics from college were good and my work nature proves that i have huge statsitical and verbal skill. This is why they believed my reason. I am into operation job which 24x7 demanding job and the ADCOM was aware of the responsibiltiies (They might have interacted same sort of people before, lucky me). I put it straightforward, the GMAt i have is what i can get raw. I have no time to prepare because of work nature.

Thanks for such a detailed and quick answer! It might be very silly of me to ask you, but where do we need a video essay? I do not see it anywhere in the application process!

Also the questions such as "How will the Schulich MBA degree help you achieve your short and long-term career goals" are very generic, I know why I want to do an MBA, but do you think I should include why my Academic background is non-traditional?

Just to let you know, I have a very non-traditional academic background with my post secondary degrees mostly being long distance through self study.
