Dumb question but is it possible to be waitlisted in R2? And be forced to wait until end of R3 for final decision?

Pulled this from the website MBRetaker - I am not sure you will be able to hammer down precise dates but contact admissions and see if they can provide that. https://www.gsb.stanford.edu/programs/mba/admission/interviews

Interview Schedule
Interviews take place in the following time windows:

Round 1: mid-October to late November
Round 2: early February to mid-March
Round 3: mid-April to early May

We will send you a more specific timetable after the application deadline for the round in which you apply.

You mean, when you would receive or not receive an invite for an interview for round 3 MBRetaker ?

MBRetaker
My goal is to apply to round 3, do you guys have any sense of the interview timing?

My question meant to ask:

- When will they start sending out interview invitation and rejection notifications?
- What is the range of days in which they will hold interviews?

Yes, it is definitely possible. I've had both friends and past clients in this situation for all of the top schools. I had one R2 client last year that found out 3 DAYS before Wharton was to start classes that he got in off the waitlist. He dropped everything and is in his first year there now! A similar thing happened to a friend of mine about 2 weeks before HBS was to start its academic year.

Coronavirus is wreaking havoc on Stanford campus. If the forum is not aware, MBA global study trips have been canceled, graduation ceremony has been canceled, and all on-campus speakers / events have been canceled as well.

Spring quarter has been moved 100% online so unfortunately we will waste next three months of our career watching online videos.

GSB management has NOT offered any sensible deferment options, tuition discount, or additional resources to make up for the compromised online classes. To be perfectly honest, our entire cohort is feeling very disheartened.

I don't have a purpose behind this post, but just felt like venting and letting incoming students know situation on the ground :-(

What would you recommend the GSB management do in this situation?

The only thing I can think of is tuition discount. What is your cohort's general view on actions that should be taken by GSB management?

I don’t think the university can legally hold classes during the Shelter at Home order. Students can come on their own but the school cannot open classes.... I’m also curious what solutions current students are thinking of

Guesstimating here, but roughly 70% of students are asking for tuition discount.

Other 30% (including me) are more worried about a diluted academic experience online. Classes like communications, strategy, sales don't work on Zoom. Also we don't get a chance to network and meet interesting because entire campus has been shutdown. We are asking for credits we can use in future to retake classes or executive education courses, and stay engaged with the Stanford community after graduation.

Right, asking for tuition discount and/or for credits for future classes, seems reasonable to me, owing to the diluted experience.

The networking opportunities are indeed negatively impacted. I hope the school's career office will help with career/job searches, even after graduation.

Good luck!

That's extremely unfortunate Hadamard, I am so sorry this semester is likely to be a huge bummer. Even more so because after reviewing the Booth chat sounds like they are taking a proactive role in getting social events online so you can continue to deepen those relationships.

I think the idea of extending you free access to Stanford exec education or gatherings sounds reasonable. Maybe get entrepreneurial about it - organize some creative win-win ideas and present to the administrators. I think anything related to having them give you more of the "product" rather than a cash refund would go over successfully.

Not to say you don't deserve both, but you might salvage more value by focusing on why you decided go to b-school or GSB in the first place (like maybe being virtually included in OCR for an additional year, spitballing but you know what I mean.) What Stanford related stuff can they give you down the road that will offset the loss?

A bit premature because HBS and GSB decisions come out next week but this does tip the balance a bit in favor of advising my clients to go with HBS.

How Does Coronavirus (COVID-19) Affect My Round 3 Business School Application?

The global Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has upended nearly every aspect of life as we know it. For those of you who are still wrapping up your business school applications for the class of 2022, what does this mean for you?

Stanford GSB

Round 3 deadline remains April 8th, 2020 at 2pm PT. Applicants are allowed to submit required exam scores after the Round 3 deadline. If you cannot submit your scores before they post decisions on May 21st, 2020 and you are considered to be a competitive applicant, they may invite you to join the waitpool until they receive your scores and can further consider your candidacy. Test scores are accepted up until August 1st, 2020. You may be invited to interview without test scores but you will not be admitted without a test score.

If you're applying to HBS, Wharton, Tuck, Booth, or Sloan, I've also compiled that info here.

Would it be disadvantageous to hold off on test sending scores now that Stanford is giving a few more weeks to send them in? I have a fairly low GPA (<3.0) so I feel like I need to maximize my gmat score to stand a chance. Any thoughts on sending scores 2-3 weeks post deadline?

I think you have the right idea; under all circumstances, you really want to put forth your absolute best performance on the GMAT and so I think it would be wise to take advantage of the extra time, myself. If it makes sense, get an online tutor or do something that might really accelerate your performance. I have some verbal strategies posted on https://blogtalkradio.com/mbaprepcoach Good luck!
