Well... there are plenty of poor applicants who are rich in spirit and ambition.

You will definitely be able to get into a top 50 school with a scholarship but you will still need about 25-40k per year for living expenses. I don't see why you would not try a spectrum of schools. Many can offer a scholarship but again, you need a plan for living expenses. Some schools may help with a fellowship such as Owen Vanderbilt.

You may be able to borrow from prodigy finance for living expenses. I would check with them as to how much you need if you get a full tuition scholarship.

PS.
I don't know what a gold-medalist is.... sorry.

Thank you so much sir for ur prompt reply. Much appreciated.....
Actually, as I mentioned before, I am targeting those programs which also provide annual stipends. Like Rice Jones Crownover Scholars get 25k/year. OSU Fellowships also reward you handsomely. Simon Rochester same. Anyways, a loan of 30k is not much of a headache for me coz Consulting firms like Deloitte alone pay a signing bonus of 25k.

But the most important question that u seem to have skipped is how much of a disadvantage will graduating from a Tier-2 college (among the Top-3 students, say) have over graduating from the fabled M7?? Are the rumours of a bias in the industry actually true???

OH! P.S. - "Gold Medalist" in India is usually referred to the Topper of the batch, i.e. summa cum laude :P

It is really very strong GMAT score. However, you need to focus on other issues. You are still young with low WE compared to others. This will affect you resume and essays . You need to now the pool of candidates you compete with. It is usually (Indian male IT). We have good here in our website rejected albeit their big GMAT score. GMAT is onr component. You need to build compelling essay that show your progress and strong recommendations too.

Good luck

Nobody really cares what grades you got in your MBA. That's not what you are hired for. Very few people fail to graduate from the bschool and most employers really really really do not care what grade you got in org behavior or microeconomics principles class. You just have to maintain a certain gpa to maintain your scholarship and to graduate but those are quite low.

It is your work experience, speaking and interviewing skills and networking and accomplishments outside of the classroom (internship, competitions, volunteering, and involvement) that count.

As to your question, nobody knows the exact answer.

PS. Did I mention that the grades in MBA don't matter?

Hello Seniors/Experts. This is my first time here & I hope to find the kind of advice gmatclub is known for. I am in a really bad space right now & could really use some expert advice. A brief glimpse into my profile -

Nationality- Indian
Age- 27
GPA- 3.7
GMAT- 780
WE - 24 months in IT as a Software Engineer
3 yrs as a professional soccer player, trying to break into the National Football League (called the I-League)
Competed in 6 Underground MMA competitions in the last 2 yrs.
Goal - Go into Management Consulting post MBA & eventually open a Sports Management Firm at 40.
Will be Applying in R1 of 2017....

I have been lucky enough to score a pretty solid 780 which gives me a fighting chance in the Top-10 (especially Acads- focused schools). This should have been a really exciting time for me but destiny decides to test me in the worst possible moment. My family has fallen into hard times in recent months & I only got to know of the severity of my father's debt a couple of weeks back. As such, I cannot expect any help from him.

As such, I have been thinking of setting my sights low, targetting the schools in the 20-30 bracket which would give me a full-ride+stipend. This would ease the pressure on my family since I would be getting my MBA from a Top-30 US B-School without having to spend practically anything. This is why I am writing to you coz I am split on 2 points -

1) I know that these are FAR inferior schools to the ones I have fantasized about for so long . But, considering my financial situation, should I just bite the bullet, settle for a lower ranked B-School & try to be a Gold-Medalist there??? HOW MUCH WILL IT AFFECT MY FUTURE PROSPECTS??

2) Is there any financing option in the Top-10/11 schools for candidates like us with not much collateral & poor credit rating??

Any advice from the seniors will be greatly helpful & go a long way in me arriving at some decision... Please do help....
Hi, am having nearly the same situation, but, in a different manner, I just want to know the kind of effort required in order to attain such high scores. Please advise.

Dear Sayak,

A 750 is equivalent to around 98%ile. This 98%ile is calculated on the base of all well qualified and well prepared (at least 3 month rigorous preparation) candidates who attempt GMAT exam every year.
Recommendation-01: Take a Diagnostic Test. and check your current score/level.
Recommendation-02: According to your score follow a study plan for next few months.

With this score, you should be teaching GMAT. You could easily make $200 per hour of class, and start your Sport Management Firm tomorrow if you want to, even as a side business.

Come on man... look beyond the MBA world. It is full of opportunities.
