Hi MySpace,

There is no truth to the fact that Non-IIT, Non-NIT candidates cannot enter the top tier B-schools. Where you went to schools is only one of the parameter in the selection criterias set by Adcoms. My cohort at HEC Paris had students from all range of schools.

There are other criteria which can collectively carry your application forward- such as - academic profile(including GMAT), achievements in school/professional life, the story you present, future aspirations, international exposure etc. The Adcom decision on your application is a weighted average of all the criteria; not just the school you went to. As long as you can put in a strong overall application, you should get an invite to the interview.

Should you need professional guidance on moving forward with applications, feel free to connect with me.

Regards,
Gautam Sharma

I am a mechsnical engineer from MIT Manipal with impressive academics and clear long term goals. By I have been time and again told that a non IITian or non NITian has very little chance with the ADCOM. Is this is fact? Could you also provide the background (College)of selected Indian students in the programme. Should I consider not applying only because my university is not in the top 10?

Hi Gautam,

I hope you're doing well, just wondering if you might be able to help me out on this one.

I applied for the Jan 2020 intake at HEC Paris in Sep 2019 (Considering I am an international applicant, I realize how late I applied), anyways, I received an email from the HEC team as below.

Quote

Thank you once again for applying to the HEC Paris MBA. We held our pre-selection admissions jury today and assessed your application with careful consideration. Your overall profile has many strong elements, however your current GRE/GMAT score is below the average of the incoming class.

We believe your essays, academic achievements and your career path demonstrate a fit for HEC Paris, and because of these reasons, we are happy to keep your application open and give you a chance to improve your score. An increased GRE/GMAT score will strengthen your application and it will ensure that you will be successful in the classroom. If you have already tried the GMAT several times, we suggest trying the GRE, and we want to reassure you that we will only consider your highest score.

Please let us know if you would like to proceed with your application with your current score, or if you would like to take this opportunity to try the test again. If you decide to retake, please share with us your new score when you have it and we will evaluate your application in the subsequent pre-selection jury.

Considering I am already pretty late in the application process, I informed them that I would like my application to be considered with my current GMAT score of 670.

Do you know of anyone who has faced something similar?

Thank you

Hi Gautam, I have a question on the language requirements for graduation. I understand you need to be proficient in three languages (English is a given) - I assume you can either attain a certification or pass a test from HEC to demonstrate proficiency? What if one of the other two languages (besides English) is my native language? Would I still need to prove anything then? And how do I prove that it’s my native language? (In my home country there is more than one official language)

Thanks so much for your time!

I am curious about this as well? Can they actually hold on you from graduating if you don't speak 3rd language? I am Jan 2020 admit, and yet to start working on 3rd one.

English proficiency is required; some level of French is required to graduate. English proficiency is the only requisite for admittance.

Just to add to this: If your first language is English, you have to complete one extra language requirement (B1, if not mistaken) and not necessarily French, by the end of the course. If you're not a native English speaker, you have to have a third language by the end of the course, also not necessarily French. If you already speak a third language, you can just show a proof (official language test result) or take a test at the school and have that requirement fulfilled.
The school can hold your graduation if you do not fulfill this point.
