Hi GurkiD,

A CAT is really a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to learn the necessary Tactics and put in the proper practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. In addition, the process of taking (and reviewing) a CAT requires a significant amount of energy and effort - and takes time to 'recover' from. This is one of the reasons why you typically shouldn't take more than 1 CAT per week - and your last CAT should be taken about 1 week before Test Day. By taking so many CATs in such a short period of time, you are likely getting too tired to consistently perform at a higher level (and thus, the fluctuations in your scores are happening).

If you are at least 7 days from your Official appointment time, then you might want to consider paying the rescheduling fee and pushing back your Test Date. Beyond that, before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi,

I think one reason for the big deviation in your scores is the variety of different mocks you are taking.
From what I can tell you have taken Veritas, Pricenton Review, GMAC, Manhattan & Kaplan tests that alone is going to yield quite a big of differences among your scores.

In addition, I would recommend sticking to official GMAC mocks to really gauge your current ability.

In case you cannot reschedule in time, just make sure to focus on your weak areas, maybe take one more OG mock and get in the right mindset for test-day.

Best regards,
Chris

Thank you for your advice . I think this might be the case .
I appreciate the help.

That's an interesting insight .
I have been studying from last 2 months . I put in a lot of time 3-4 hours atleast everyday.
I have studied Gmat OG , manhattan and couple other siyrces for the questions.
My quant score was always 40+ and verbal was 25+ until last week . My first gmat score were Manhattan 450, 550( i don't remember the specific score for each section) then Kaplan 600( Q47, V28) then Veritas 590(Q45,V27) then Princeton 640(Q47,V31) then 550(Q39,V27),560(Q39,V28) Veritas and then Gmat prep 540 (Q38,V27).

Hi GurkiD,

Based on your most recent post, I assume that you did not reschedule your Official GMAT (meaning that your Test is in a few days). While you might be tempted to study a lot during these last few days, you do not want to 'burn out' before Test Day. As such, you should limit your studies to general practice and light review (NO CATs and NO 'cramming') - you would be better served by getting some extra rest so that you can go into Test Day calm, clear-headed and ready to work.

You didn't quite answer all of my prior questions - and those additional answers can help to define what you should do after you take the GMAT.

1) What is your overall goal score?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

My highest score was 640 about a week back . After that I studied for 2-3 days more and then gave a veritas exam i got 550 and i was shocked and isheartend but brushed it iff . next to next day i gave another one got 550 again. Next i waited 2-3 days and gave official gmat prep mock ang got 540 . What is happening .
It could be that you need a break. Taking 3-4 tests in one week is not easy.

My gmat exam is in a week and I have given 6-8 mocks. My highest score was 640 about a week back . Next i waited 2-3 days and gave official gmat prep mock ang got 540 . What is happening . I was always improving in my score . First I got 450 on Manhattan then I got 550 on Manhattan then 600 in kaplan then 590 in veritas and the i got 640 in Princeton. Now im not able to get past 550 anywhere . Can someone please help ? I'm good in quant , whenever I see the answer I kick myswelf as to how easy the question was and I always had 40+ before my slump(I really hope it's a slump) but now im getting 35, 38 not even touching 40 . My verbal is consistent , though increasing .

Gurki, some suggestions:

You appear to have unknowingly stressed yourself with multiple varieties of mock tests taken within days of each other.

Focus on revision of your weak areas and quickly strengthening your stronger ones.

Do not take any more mock tests, except perhaps another official test. Or, just solve and re-solve official questions.

One week is very short. Consider a reschedule until you get yourself together. You are capable of doing better than your current state, but that will require reschedule and regrouping.

2) Im planning of applying to Bschools now, as in, end week of september or october and also couple of Bschools after receiving my 5th sem results i.e. before the deadlines for respective schools.
3) I'm planning for Sloan, UBC, Penn, StGallen, Carlson, yale and a couple more .

Yes I'm thinking of not giving any more mocks .
I don't think I can reschedule it as I have my semester exams coming up and I have to study for it too. But I appreciate your confidence in me . Thank you :)
