(1) 6 – y is a positive integer.

Y could be negative thus making the solution a positive integer - therefore A is insufficient.

(2) 6 + y > 7.2

Y can be anything over 1.2 - to infinity. But with statement 1, in which the positive range of Y is between 0 and 5, we can conclude that Y < 7. Therefore - C.

the question asked is y an integer greater than 7? Statement one answers the question. the answer to statement one is no. remember an integer can be a positive or a negative whole number.
