Hi,

My profile is as follows

Class X - 93%
Class XII - 74%
B.E - 56%

After BE I started my own factory and ran it for 2 years (This I'm not putting in my official application). I also took up a 2-year PGPM course from a "B-School" in Bengaluru. The school was not AICTE/ UGC approved. However, employer's didn't seem to care. There I worked hard, got 7.8/10 (was top 3 in the batch). I was also a Placement committee member there and our committee was responsible for 100% placements (Its a big deal for tier-III college)

After this, I'm now working in a Startup from the past 3 years. Initially, I was the only employee, and hence I was looking after everything like Marketing, Accounting, Sales, Operations etc. Now after scaling up, I'm now primarily responsible for Key Accounts Management and Operations from past 1 year. I still am responsible for a bit of marketing work, but that is now a very marginal role.

My GMAT Score - 710 (V38, Q49)

What are my chances for ISB

Hi kaushikpknk

Here is our assessment:
- Starting your own factory and running it for 2 years is a significant accomplishment, and you should certainly be putting it down on your application. The PGPM is not an issue either - plenty of people apply to ISB for a second MBA equivalent program.
- Your work in the startup seems interesting but need more details on this - what sector is it in? what have been your key achievements?
- Acads for you are low, but the GMAT is ok, and with a decent application you will have a chance

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi kaushikpknk,

Thanks for sharing your profile.
I am an ISB alum, C014 and have been assisting applicants in their admission journeys since.
Below is my take on your profile :
Academics : Average (GPA is a big negative)
Work Experience : Average
Extra-Curricular : Difficult to comment based on details shared
GMAT Score : Above Average

First of all, I am not sure why you do not want to put your experience of running a factory. With the entire ‘Make in India’ campaigns going on, it can be a very strong point for you. Secondly, you will need to justify why you need another management course after having graduated from one already – don’t limit yourself to just the ‘tier 1 college brand name’. Thirdly, you will need to portray very realistic and achievable short term goals in your application and draw clearly how ISB’s PGP will help you get to them.

In a nutshell, while your GMAT score is good, your profile currently lacks the spark that ad coms want to see. With a well thought through and comprehensive application, you definitely stand a chance to get an interview shortlist and a final offer as well.

Please feel free to get in touch with me at [email protected] and/or +91-9701215544 in case you want a detailed discussion.
Cheers and Best of luck

Hello casillus

Your GMAT, though lower than the average score of ISB, may not be a deal breaker in your specif case as your work ex potentially seems strong.
Make sure you talk about your career progress and impact at work.
That said, no info around career goals makes your profile incomplete as it is not evident why you wish to study at ISB- the goals must be organic and realistic. You may want to read here to add to your research.

Hello Supgup

The current work profile looks very unique and interesting. It could help you stand out and could potentially be a good story to tell how you managed this switch and what have you achieved in this role.
That said, it also begs the question that why pursue PGP from ISB at all? How does all of this tie in with the long term vision of your career? If you can present that in an organic, realistic and convincing way, you may have a good shot.
Extracurricular activities seem week in their current form.
Needless to say aim for a competitive GMAT score (say 700+ in your case).
Are you planning to apply in R2 this year? That may not be enough time as you haven't still taken the GMAT and applications warrant a few weeks of work, unless you have progressed on the applications already.

Hello Pakhandi

Though there's very little information around your professional work ex, the info shows that your work ex might be quite different from most applicants. This can work in your favor by helping you stand out. However, also focus on career progression, achievements and impact of your work.
Moving on to Extracurricular- not sure if it is extracurricular or a part of your professional experience itself. See if there are other activities too. Again, like work ex, more than a laundry list, your contribution here will matter more.
Past academic scores look decent- what sort of score are you expecting in the GMAT?
Lastly, not mention of your career goals and why you wish to study at ISB. This is going to be the most critical aspect of your application- all the more so because of your professional background and your age- you will be an outlier that means you need to show not only more maturity than most applicants but also a fit with ISB in terms of age, work ex and goals.
So make sure you address all the above along with a high GMAT score- because due to the last moment unanticipated change, no one knows at this stage how tricky or selective R3 is going to be- my guess is not even ISB has a clear answer to that.

Hello Nightmare007

Your profile seems to check most boxes- GMAT, Decent past scores (I would not worry too much on the 6.6/10 as your GMAT can compensate for it), Brand on the CV.
Cannot see any extracurricular here though. They are another way to bring some diversity to your profile. The IT tag might be your biggest struggle (but certainly not a deal breaker by any means).
Not sure what your question is around eligibility- with 4 years of work ex and a degree you are eligible of course.
Since you want to hear only on profile- you have all the decent elements (except extracurricular activities) to warrant an interview call.

Hi Varun,
I had worked with BHUMI for 1 month spending 72 hours on the rural education survey. I don't know whether i should add it in my essay as it is what most people do and might not be that appealing. Shall i include it ?

Hi swapnilathaya,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

I am an ISB alum, C014 and have been assisting applicants in their admission journeys since.

Below is my take on your profile :

Academics : Average (GPA is a big negative)
Work Experience : Good
Extra-Curricular : Difficult to comment based on details shared
GMAT Score : Below Average (If you can try increasing score by 20-30 points atleast)

The combination of GMAT score and higher side of work experience puts you slightly on the back foot when it comes to your chances of making the cut. However, what you should focus in telling the ad com how the cohort would benefit from your decade plus years of experience and how you are confident that the ISB PGP and not any executive program will help you achieve your goals.

Please feel free to get in touch with me at [email protected] and/or +91-9701215544 in case you want a detailed discussion.

Cheers and Best of luck

Hi swapnilathaya

Your GMAT Score is below the average of the ISB classes so far. However, given the number of years of experience and the quality of work experience (depicted through essays) that you bring to the class, GMAT score should not be a deterring factor while applying to ISB. We have worked with candidates, who got an interview call at the same score with 3-5 years of work experience in IT, few other candidates have got in ISB with a score in range of 600-650 as well. in short to answer your specific question, Yes your gmat score is good enough to apply. Moreover, your verbal score is good as compared to folks who generally score more in QA than in Verbal.

Your acads are decent with good credential (NIT Nagpur).

Now the onus lies on you as to how you represent your career growth and story in the essays. Whether you are at an upper limit as far as age is concerned will solely depend on your post MBA goals (both long term and short term) and on the point as to whether you are clear with the need of MBA, there are people in much more age bracket than you you have graduated from ISB. Your clarity in your goals and how ISB PGP fits into the picture is all you have to be clear with. These points have to be bang on and you cannot falter in your essays and while in your interview.

In case you don't plan to re-take GMAT, I strongly suggest that you start working on your essays and apply at this score.

All the Best !

Hi All,

I am a master degree holder in Biotechnology from a UK University, followed by co-founding a start up company in hyderabad, in 2010. Since then, I have served my company in the capacity of Head/Director - Operations. The company is a CRO (Clinical Research Organisation), which basically provides various services for Pharmaceutical & Biotech Companies. Now I decided to pursue my long term goal of doing an MBA in ISB. I am currently ready to take my GMAT very shortly. But I am not sure if my entrepreneur profile suits the program and if yes, what is the GMAT score I must target? My academics are :
SSC - 86%
+2 - 86%
B.Tech - 70%
In total, I have around 5 years of experience in Operational and Business Development acitvities at my company. Any evaluation would be very much appreciated.

Hi Biorevanth,

I am a current student at ISB. Going by the points mentioned about your profile, I can definitely say you stand a good chance if you want to apply to ISB. A GMAT score above 700 would augment your chances by a considerable amount. Please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] for any further query.
