Dear Bhargu999,

You can refer to the link : https://crackadmission.medium.com/steth ... 0d6717bc64
to get a sense of how applicants from the practicing medical fraternity should explain their story to the admission committee.

As far as your current GMAT score is concerned, it is perfectly competitive. What you need to focus on are:
a. What does the cohort stand to gain from your experiences? Will they be able to directly / indirectly gain something from it?
b. There is a lot of effort and time investment you would have made to get your medical degree. Why do you suddenly want to stop being a practitioner and become an administrator? The rationale and motivation should be obvious for the ad com.

I am an ISB alum, CO15, and have worked with a few applicants with non-traditional backgrounds like yours in the past. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] in case you seek guidance in drafting a compelling and logical application.

Cheers and all the best !

You've earned yourself an excellent GMAT score. Congratulations on that. The GPA is alright, but the GMAT makes up for that.
Your work description sounds like you would have the relevant achievements and leadership experiences to write good essays. This will be crucial for you because of your over-represented background. So writing about experiences that show your leadership skills, ability to initiate, influence and persuade and achieve results can help to set your profile apart in a crowded applicant pool. The goals - well thought out, logical yet ambitious will further add to a solid application.
Some of your ECAs are a little different but you don't seem to have been involved in much since 2018. ISB's first essay is all about showing how you can contribute using your personal and professional skills. So this essay can give you the opportunity to bring out your personality by mentioning specific instances from your life outside work. WE can have a more detailed discussion on this, so feel free to reach out.

Hi Bhargu999,

Here is our reply to your questions:

Q1. Is 710 GMAT sufficient for my profile?
Ans: 710 GMAT is a perfect score considering your profile.

Q2. People’s management: I manage interns and Consulting Dentists for some specific cases. Do you think this counts?
Ans: Yes, this experience counts and is also an opportunity to showcase management skills.

Q3. Having a Dental background and clinical experience, will I be at a disadvantage in the admission process?
Ans: Absolutely not a disadvantage. Many dentists in the past with similar backgrounds and clinical experience have studied PGP.

Q4. I will apply in R2 this year. Would I be at disadvantage for not applying in R1? Should I wait until next year to apply in R1?
Ans: You will not be in any way at disadvantage for not applying in R1 but applying in R2. We strongly urge you to submit your application R2 this year.

Q5. What are my chances for ISB?
Ans: Your chances are super good.

Wishing you all the very best.

Hi parthchawla

You have an impressive academic percentage and very rich professional achievements. However, your GMAT score is less than the average score of the batch. The applicant pool in EEO is competitive, we would strongly recommend attempting the test again and aiming to score a higher GMAT score compared to 680(Current Score).

Considering your past academic performance with some additional effort, you should be able to increase your GMAT score.
Wishing you all the best.

The R2 candidates might be interested in knowing that R2 candidates who have already submitted their applications, have already started getting interview invites.

Hence, if you are done with your GMAT and application, there is no reason to wait to get close to the R2 deadline (December 4, 2022), to submit your application.

Submit the application and you could receive the interview invite within few days.

Good luck!

Oh yes...as early as December 1st!

Incidentally, our candidates have received 'Zoom call' invites, despite have expressed their preference for an in-person interview in the application. Not sure if it's a general trend though.

Hello raj94knp

Past scores and GMAT are average (no deal breaker but no spike either).
Work ex info lacks any qualitative details for a complete evaluation. More than just the role and years of work ex what is needed is the depth of work ex- career progression, key achievements, impact on the business of your organization. Don't consider work ex as a checklist, but go into quality. For instance, your extracurricular/interest section is much more detailed than the work ex (which is supposed to be more relevant for the b school application).
Extracurriculars seem interesting, but most look dated (usually school/university activities do not add much weight unless the achievements are stellar or you can show how these are relevant even today after many years).
No mention of career goals (the most important piece of the admissions puzzle) makes it difficult to judge thee clarity of vision, fit with the school and realistic nature of your goals.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello ayushiiiarya

Essays or application mist bring out the following elements-

1. Academic Potential- past scores are decent, the GMAT is slightly below par. Whether you should retake will depend on if you have a spike in at least one of the areas below.
2. Work Experience- on the lower side, will expect you to show strong career progression and achievements as yoou will be facing a tough competition who has been in the industry longer. Tough to take a call based on the info shared.
3. Diversity- Engineering and some bit of software background make it tough to stand out, but some of the extracurricular are interesting and can make for good story telling (ensure you show how they are relevant to the b school application instead of treating them as a checklist).
4. Career Goals- No mention of goals. This is extremely important. Your profile is not just a combination of your past but your future goals are an equal part of your profile. IS will look at how Clear and Realistic your goals are to assess your candidature.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello Regime

Most aspects check the box.
Past scores and GMAT are good (much needed considering the Computer Science background).
Work ex needs more elaboration (if not here, at least in the essays will need to bring out career progress and achievements to stand out in the large and competitive pool of IT applicants).
Diversity might be low but a couple of extracurricular seems interesting enough to add it to a story in one of the essay that says how you will add value. The trick is to show how it is relevant and will help add value to the school.
Career goals are missing, you may want to focus on that.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello,

1. Where should I focus my essay? Focus on syncing your goals with your story so far and how the specific MBA will help you achieve your goals. Specificity is important.
You could use the optional essay if you feel you would like to explain. Focus on what were the specific areas where you scored less, and explicitly discuss how you have worked on building those skills through alternative courses or relevant work experience.

2. Should I re-attempt GMAT? You could do that, although a 690 shouldn't stop you from applying. Since you mentioned that you had a bad test day it seems you could have scored better, so it might be a good idea to give the test again.

All the best!
