On a number line, there are four points P, Q, S, and T, with coordinates p, q, s, and t, respectively. Suppose p < q < s < t, p = -1, s = 2. If the distance between P and Q is twice the distance between Q and S, and S is the midpoint of Q and T, then what is the coordinate of T ?

A) 0
B) 1
C) 2
D) 3
E) 4

-----p------q-------s-------t-----
--(-1)------------(2)------------

The question says that S is the midpoint. i.e s= (q+t )/2. i.e 2=(q+t)/2
Hence q+t=4.

P.S Guys I got really confused about what a midpoint was while doing this. Please do not make a careless mistake and confuse this with the distance formula and make a mish-mash of these two.

Now the question says that the distance between p and q is twice that of the distance between q and s. The number I obtained is 1 (because 0 is not possible and any other values such as 0.5 and 1.5 are not satisfying this)

Only q=1 satisfies this
-----p------q-------s-------t-----

----(-1)------(1)----(2)------t-----

t=(4-q) =(4-1)=3.

Final visualization:
----p------q-------s-------t-----

---(-1)-----(1)-----(2)----(3)---

P-------•-------q-------s---------t
-1------0-------1-------2---------?
In the above number line,
Distance between P and Q =2( From -1 to 1)
So distance between Q and S = 1
S is the midpoint of Q and T, Therefore T =3.
