It should be D.

If 36 is split into 3 equal segments and 2 of those segments are equal to 3, then total length can be calculated by

$$x*2/3 = 36$$

$$x = 36*3/2$$

$$x = 54$$

Then, one of the segments would be $$54/3$$ or $$18$$.

Since BC = CD and BC + CD = BD = 36.

Let BC = CD = x
2x = 36, or x=18.
Therefore, BD = 36.

Both BC and CD are 18.
Now, since AB = BC = CD, we can also say that AB = 18(Option D)

Somewhat basic, but comes in handy on harder problems: To calculate distance between marks, use upper - lower/ # of intervals.

Upper(D) - lower(B) is given: 36. There are two equal intervals between them. 36/2 = 18, so distance between marks is 18.

AB is one interval. AB = 18.

AB = BC = CD
BD = 36
So BC = CD = 36/2
AB = BC = CD = 18

Let $$AB = BC = CD = x$$

Given, $$BD = 36$$

$$BD = BC + CD = x + x = 2x$$

$$2x = 36$$

$$x = \frac{36}{2} = 18$$

$$AB = 18$$

We can let AB = BC = CD = x. Thus, since BD = 36, we have:

2x = 36

x = 18 = AB
