Donotdrop,
nishan29, congrats guys , could you help us with your profiles ?
Profile:
Job - Senior Marketing Operations Manager
Age - 30
Demographic - Male (He/Him) / Straight / heterosexual / Canadian Born / Indian family background
Years Experience - 6+ in Local and Global Marketing Tech / B2B / B2C / SaaS
Companies Profiles I’ve Worked (total time/profile) - 2 startups (SaaS) - 11 Months / 2 marketing agencies (B2B Global Enterprise) - 2 years 4 months / 1 goods & services (B2B and B2C) - 1 year 2 months / 2 Global Enterprise companies - 1 year 8 months
Company Jumping Explained - One agency let me go after 5 months because all the contracts I was hired for were put on hold or cancelled due to Covid...so they really had no financial reason to keep me around. No job job for 4 months due to hiring freezes globally because of covid panic, used time to up-skill/level up. Next comany was a strartup for 5 months (first job I could find after being let go from the agency). I left the startup because there was a great opportunity to accelerate my career and build/develop key skills that would pay dividends in my future career.
Family Business Experience - 20 years on and off through school (few hours here and there, but growing up around family businesses you passively learn a lot)
GMAT - 570 (very bad I know) I took the GMAT a few times and somehow that was my best score. Just bad timing with life and exams.
Bad Score Explained - I have numerous things that took priority over my GMAT scores/exam time periods which I covered in my essays. Things ranging from Family to Health issues, that’s why I probably would take that score with a bit of give. When I took practice exams I was ~630-660. So that’s probably why Ad Com wanted to see a bit more about who I was.
GPA - 3.0
Education - Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, but graduated with Bachelors degree in Economics. (switched a few times in university)
Parents Education - High School
References - 2 - Both didn’t give me 10/10 on their reviews. Probably 6-7/10. I told them to be honest and don’t overinflate/lie about who or what I am as an employee. Checked off box saying I can't see their responses, but they did talk to me after submission explaining their choices.
Extracurriculars & Hobbies - Skiing, Volleyball, Football (Soccer), Powerlifting, Hiking, Kayaking, Sewing, Cooking, decorating/furnishing (planning a house and kinda got into homely things), Light Mentoring (2 people), Photography, Drinking and learning about Wine/Scotches/Beers/Cocktails, Watches/Horology, Time with friends, Light Travel (Maybe 1 global trip every 2/3 years, 2-3 domestic road trips to visit friends), Darts,
Video Games* (Highlighting this because I explained to Ad-Com that video games allow me to keep in touch with my friends from university who are now global)
Extracurriculars & Hobbies I tell Ad-Com - Skiing, Volleyball, Powerlifting, Cooking, Light Mentoring, Video Games
I went a bit in depth for a lot of things just so I can copy and paste this next time someone asks. But I think that is everything for my profile, background, and kinda things adcom will be interested in me about.
I also had my interview this morning. Tips I review before calls:
- Always keep a drink handy, gives you a artificial break you can use to think of an answer while they are finishing their question.
- Smile, look directly at the camera, not at the screen they are on. It's a hard habit to break, but it pays dividens in your career.
- Be as natural and engaging as you can be
- Tone Modulation when you desribe your story, tones of ups and downs in very important
- Show emotions
- Do homework on the school, employment report, and city. They could come out with a random question
- Look up school colours and try to either match or wear them. They do take notes.
- Do not wear rival schools colours. They do take notes.
- Clean up everything, yourself, your room, your background, etc.
- Make sure people do not disturb you.
- Turn phone/mobile to silent but keep it infront of you incase Ad-Com calls on it (should video fail).
- Remove home/landline phone from your room (Unless Ad-Com has that number should video fail).
- If you have your interviewer's name, look them up and get an understanding of who they are.
- Remeber that it's not just you they are interviewing. You are interviewing them, ask questions you couldn't find answers to online, or through webinars.
- Always have 2-3 questions ready, but ask at least 2 with scope of the school, and maybe 1 question non school releated i.e about the city, state, food, etc.
- Prepare your notes for the call, if you need put sticky notes with prompts around the camera so your eyes don't drift down or too far off.
- You can move! Don't just be a stiff on camera, you can shift, move, drink coffee/tea/water, move your arms, etc!
- You made it this far to have an intervew! The Schools are interested in who
you are as a person, not too much about your career or scores or education. There are
thousands of people with same scores or better than you! What makes
YOU as a person special, and how will
YOU ADD VALUE to your classmates expereince, learning, and to the school

- They'll be pausing to take notes.
- Decision will be released on decision date.

2. Why an MBA - Talked about why a one-year MBA was my choice and what I'll get out of the MBA
3. Short and Long term career goals - I discussed both as well as highlighting my target industries
4. What is a strength you bring to your team/classmates
5. What is a weakness of yours that you will bring to your team/classmates
