Finally a Bangladeshi Thread.

I gave my GMAT today at IT Bangla. this is my second attempt.

1st Attmept - Nepal - 640 Q46 V32 (18 Nov 2015)
2nd Attempt - Bangladesh 710 Q48 V39 (9 Dec 2015)

IT Bangla is the reason that I got a better grade. 2 Reason,
1. NEVER give your exam in a different country. If you do, always arrive to the country at least 1 week before the exam. I arrived on 17th and gave the exam on the 18th. I was dehydrated, feverish and with diarrihoea. I had to take two unscheduled breaks during the exam and lost valuable time. IT Bangla is in Dhaka so distance is not an issue. However, It took me 2 hours to go from Gulshan to Topkhana road. My appointment was at 3:30 and I got there at 3:28. I had to run. So allow for atleast 2.5 hours to get there.

2. IT Bangla staff is far more friendlier than Nepal. They bring you scratch pads even before you raise your hand. The atmosphere is also very good.

If by any chance, you do not get any dates like me, Nepal is a good choice. 1stly, plane fare is low, Visa is on arrival and free and there are loads of dates.

Also even though it is very expensive to sit for the GMAT for many people, it is always a very good idea to give GMAT at least 2 times but no more than 3 times. The rules of the test centre are very different from any exam I have encountered. In the first test I didn't even know that the Verbal comes last.

I only read one book. The Princeton review. I do not know if there are better books out there, but I loved the book a lot! I did not have time to do any of the practice questions in the book but I did all the questions on the GMAT free prep kit. Download it and DO it! It will help you a lot especially in Verbal.

Also it may be too much to ask, but please please buy the Original Book. I know the original book costs 4000 BDT. But you are giving an exam which costs around 20,000 BDT to 24,000 BDT. If you do spend less on a duplicate book from Nilkhet or any other place, you might not be motivated to read it more. An original book is easy to read.

That being said, it is up to your own choice. If you are comfortable with duplicate books then by all means use that.

Finally, 1 great insight that I would like to share with my fellow Bangladeshi students, GMAT is not about how good you are at maths or English. Sure I feel good that I could get the score I was aiming for (I needed 690). But its not about that.

Do NOT let other people influence you, GMAT is about handling pressure and how good you are at making decisions. You need to understand the pace, you should never ever worry about getting a good score, never get nervous. I agree with Mr Shiblee completely, "TRUST YOURSELF!"

Why do you think they (GMAC) don't mark your total score on AWA or IR sections but you have to undertake them first? Because they want to tire you, stretch you, try you and make you nervous to the point that you will start making wrong decisions. Do NOT fall into this trap.

Thanks a lot for sharing experience in detail. Actually our fellow Bangladeshi students are in lack of information. they are often misguided by some inexperienced people. I would appreciate if more of our successful GMAT takers keep sharing their experiences here.
