The Booth Part-Time MBA

In 2013, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business was ranked second by US News for best part-time program at a US business school. This high ranking is due in part to the unique and challenging culture at Booth, the school’s broad range of research centers and initiatives, and the esteemed professors, Nobel laureates, and acclaimed economists that all act as Booth faculty. The part-time program at Booth offers two options: the evening program, or the weekend program.

The average candidate for the Booth evening and weekend MBA has five years of work experience and completes the degree within two and a half to three years. Students are given the flexibility to choose their own classes, on an average of two classes per quarter, and can bridge program concentration courses and even attend full-time MBA courses. Additionally, there are fourteen areas of concentration available for part-time MBAs to choose from, including analytical management, human resource management, strategic management and international business.

The evening MBA program is especially ideal for Chicago residents. The school year is divided into four quarters, where students meet once a week over eleven weeks from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. In contrast, the weekend MBA is ideal for those who live in and nearby the Chicago area. Classes for the weekend MBA are held on Saturdays over the quarter during two timing options: from 9 p.m.-12 p.m., or from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Available to evening MBAs is the Chicago Business Fellows opportunity. This program is targeted toward newly working professionals with between zero and three years of work experience who wish to continue to work while obtaining an MBA. Candidates must have employment and maintain employment in the Chicago area while attending school. While the application process for the Chicago Business Fellows is extremely competitive, it opens the opportunity for newly experienced future business leaders who show great promise and potential to participate in the Booth part-time evening program.

Additionally, the Chicago part-time MBA is unique in its international focus. Part-time students have the option to obtain an International MBA (IMBA) or take part in the International Business Exchange Program (IBEP). The IMBA expands international perspective by allowing students to take five international business courses, one academic term of study abroad, and gain second language proficiency. To accommodate busy professionals, IBEP is available as well, offering short-term programs between two to three weeks of international exposure and study at any of Booth’s thirty-three partner schools located in twenty-one countries globally.
