Hello everyone!
Thank you in advance for helping me with this difficult decision. As a background, I am American currently working in France for the past two years. Post-MBA, I would love to continue to work in Europe, so my decision should be pretty easy and go for the European schools, right? My luxury problem is that I got amazing scholarships for the American schools and no money from European schools. As much as I want to stay in Europe, I don't want to get into massive debt for the MBA either. My worry is that if I go back to the US to do the MBA, then I would need to work twice as hard to get a post-MBA position in Europe and, even then, it's not guaranteed. Also, talking to some friends here, they tell me that in order to hire internationals, there is a salary/position threshold imposed by many governments, and that it's harder for people just coming out of their MBAs to qualify for those thresholds since salaries are lower in Europe in general. At the same time, getting in debt right now is not something I am ready to jump into.
I want to do strategy post-MBA, start-up or corporate. I think I can be successful at either of these schools, so my question is more about international mobility.
To put it in numbers:
Yale: Offered full ride, which includes tuition and fees.
I would have to borrow around $40k for living expenses, for 2 years (this is according to their own estimation).
Great brand name recognized internationally, so it may facilitate my international mobility post-MBA. However, I'm not sure about the strength of its international network.
The school is really trying to emphasize the global aspect of their program lately (exchange programs with HEC Paris, intense one-week courses abroad, etc), but I wonder if this serves a purpose beyond a cool international experience (sorry for the cynicism).
Chicago Booth: Offered me 80% of tuition costs
I would have to borrow $60k for the remaining tuition and for living expenses.
M7 school. It's a great B-school, but I'm afraid it doesn't have the international brand or network to help me come back to Europe.
INSEAD: No money from them unfortunately.
I would have to borrow €100k for tuition and fees (€87K) and living expenses
This would be my dream school because it's so international and I would get to tap into an amazing, strong, international network
Also, if I study in France, I can get a visa post-MBA for one year while I look for jobs
Downside: 10 months is a bit short. I'm up for it, but it is short.
HEC Paris: Offered me 1/8 of tuition in scholarships
I would have to borrow €80k for the rest plus living expenses
I love the fact that it's international as well, but I am worry about the brand name. Yes, I know HEC Paris is a great name, but (from what I understand) it doesn't have the same weight as INSEAD outside of France
