Hello everyone. Few days back I gave my exam and scored 640..

I have decided to retake the exam...Now I'll be applying to bschool...

I wish to know whether I can apply with 640 and later update my retake score before the decision date !!

I mean to say what if I apply with 640 and later I score 700 will I be able to submit that score( update ) before the decision date?

Generally, you can re-submit score if you are wait-listed from the school. Your application will be assessed on the credentials you provide to school. Decision date is common for everyone and the school would have already assessed all applications and made up its mind. I do not think that the school will re-consider its decision. However, some times adcoms ask applicants to retake the GMAT and apply with a better score if they like your profile. If that can be your case, follow the target date which they give you. Which schools are you going to apply to?

I see that few schools such as tepper, marshall, IESE, LBS, Kelley mentioned in their application page that you can update the score after applying to the deadlines. You might need to write an additional essay that you will udpate the score in a month or so.

Have you already taken the test and want to submit your application to meet the deadline but also want to retake the test? We are okay with that, but need you to understand a two important things:
It is incumbent upon you to communicate the details with us and keep us informed
This may result in a delay in receiving an admission decision
If you plan to retake the GMAT or GRE, make sure to include a statement in your optional essay that indicates that you will be retaking the test and provide the date for which you have rescheduled.

NYU Stern:

If you plan to retake the GMAT, Executive Assessment, or GRE after applying, you must inform the Admissions Committee of the date you intend to take the test in the optional essay or via email to admchair@stern.nyu.edu. The Admissions Committee will proceed with the evaluation of your application using your submitted score and may issue a decision prior to receiving additional test scores.
